Using Cedar Circles near books4637

Collector bennyb86 private msg quote post Address this user
Just a question for everyone on here, I don't know why this came into my head but I recently swapped out the cedar circles I use on hangers in my closets to repell moths, silverfish, etc. Just a thought does anyone use them in or around there long boxes? I haven't ever seen any bugs or anything near them but just an idea but also don't want the cedar smell to penetrate the paper.

That is a unique question. I have no idea but wanted to reply to give it a bump. I would be interested to know too.

Cedar gas is a hydrocarbon capable of staining other mediums.

How capable? I think you would have to line your longboxes themselves with pure cedar to see any coloration, but I really dont know for sure.

I don't know about cedar wood balls but I once bought a small lot of comics that had been stored with chemical mothballs (napthalene). These were advertised as such so I bought them having searched "how to remove mothball odour from books"

Nothing I tried got rid of the smell, neither leaving them in the fresh air (for months on end) nor storing them with charcoal or cat litter (ditto) got rid of that smell.

I would countenance caution.
