How to submit book for grading4582

Collector AW177 private msg quote post Address this user
This may have been asked but I can't find anything on it so my apologies in advance! I would like to submit a signed comic to CBCS however I have no idea on how to do so. I clicked the "Submit Coimcs" button and then don't know what certain fields mean - what is the insured value I should put down (to me this signed comic is priceless)? What is Image/Slideshow/Fast Pass?

What if the signatures of the actors are missing from the site CBCS uses for signature authentication?

Thanks much all!

There should be a small "i" icon followed by the world "instructions" on the comic submission page that describes most of the fields:

Some titles can be misleading because they have the exact title above a characters name. Titles such as "Detective Comics" may have "Batman" prominently displayed on the cover.

Issue

The correct published issue number or edition of the book, such as: "181". Comics with volume numbers, such as Volume 2 Number 8, should be entered in as: V2 N8.

Year

Year that the comic was published. Example: 1963

Publisher

The Company that the comic book was published by. Such as "DC", "Marvel", "Fawcett" or "Image" .

Variant

A Variant is a comic book that was created as an alternative printing from the standard issue, or has something unique about it due to a difference during production. Some examples: A price variant, an alternative cover, a convention or store exclusive edition. There are many other variants not mentioned here.

Pedigree

A pedigree is a comic that came from a well preserved extensively documented vintage collection. These collections are well know within the comic collecting hobby and recognizedas being significant for various reasons. Please send with the comic, any certificates or paperwork it will be sent back to you with your submission. A comic will only receive a pedigree designation if CBCS's pedigree experts can positively ascertain its authenticity.

Quantity

The number of copies of this specific comic you will be submitting to CBCS.

Insured Value

The insurance value of your comic. You can assess value upon your research based on the "Fair Market Value" of the book. You can use any number of resources, such as ComicsPriceGuide.com, Overstreet Price Guide, or comic sellers and auction houses on the internet.

Grade Screen

This service allows you to select a minimum grade you would like to have your book certified at. If your book is determined by CBCS to be below the grade you have selected, your book will be returned in it's raw state and you may be charged a nominal "reject fee". If your book meets the minimum grade, it will be certified and placed into a CBCS case with no additional fees. Remember that the screening grade you choose is the minimum it can be to be certified at. In many cases your book may grade higher than the grade you chose.

CBCS is happy to provide this service as a way to prevent customers from having to pay full grading fees for comics they might not want CBCS to certify. Also remember that you can screen for any grade between 3.0 and 9.8 for each individual book. You may choose a completely different Grade Screening level for each one of the comics in your submission on the same invoice. Choosing the Grade Screening service has absolutely no impact on the stated turnaround time of your submission tier. We offer the same CBCS Guarantee with this service that we have on all of your submissions.

Image **

A web quality digital image will be created of the front of your comic after it has been encapsulated and will be sent to you via email.

Slideshow **

A slideshow file will be created using still images of every page of your comic book. We are offering this service to our customers who would still like the opportunity to see (or read) their entire comic after having it certified and encapsulated by CBCS. There will be a special QR target printed on the back of your CBCS label that will take you to our site where your slideshow will be stored indefinitely.

Fast Pass **

This enhanced service allows you to speed up the turnaround time on your chosen submission tier. For the additional charge, the turnaround for that tier will be cut to half of the regular time. The Fast Pass option is also backed by our CBCS Guarantee. Fast Pass may not be available on some of the faster tiers.

Authenticated Signature **

This is for submitting CBCS witnessed autographed and/or remarked books through our CBCS Authentic signature service. This service can only be used by preapproved CBCS Authentic Signature Witnesses.

Verified Signature **

The Verified Signature Program is for comic books that have been signed without being witnessed by a CBCS employee or representative. Signatures are authenticated by CSA through their state of the art Characteristic Signature Mapping (CSM) system and, once certified, will receive the CBCS Verified Signature label.

** Additional fees apply

Wow thank you - so comprehensive! I'm still confused as to what the Image is:

Can you further explain?

They would take a picture of your book. When you look the book up in their system, say for graders notes, the image of your book would be displayed along with the rest of the information.

@AndyRexia is correct. Basically, on your grader’s notes you’ll see something like this instead of something like this.

Also, sometimes this add-on is provided complimentarily if CBCS decides to add the book to their featured comics.

I personally never buy this add-on since you can scan the book at work, home, or at a library and get a higher resolution image without paying the extra $5

Thank you everyone for the helpful notes, so nice to see how great this forum is! Wondering if there are any online tutorials for submitting books to CBCS that I can look up instead of bugging you guys with questions?

Also: Basically, on your grader’s notes you’ll see something like this instead of something like this.

I can't view the links - asks me to login, when I do it doesn't show me anything...?

@AW177 ah, I forgot the links when viewing the book from your account are slightly different than the public pages, even though the pages are identical.

I’ve updated the links so they should work now
