I recently found a book I've been looking for at a local store at a good price. Overall its a really clean modern book except the bottom left corner/spine has a decent sized tear. The top corner is normal. I have attached pictures of the corner and was wondering how this defect would affect the grade of an otherwise 9.2-9.6 book? I realize they aren't the greatest pictures, but hopefully you get the gist. Thanks for the input.

Looks like It has a lower corner split, and rubbing of the surface color. What grade was it sold as?

any split in a spine puts it out of NM accordi g to overstreet grading

It wasn't sold to me at any grade, it was just on sale and it was a variant that I had been looking for

Below is a book I had graded that had a tear. No any other real issues with the comic, as you can see. Pretty sure the tear took it down to the 8.0. Hopefully this helps in gauging the grade.

Amazing Spider-Man #1
Marvel
1966

Variant: Golden Records Reprint
Pedigree:

8.0

Certified
Off-White/White

Signees:

Notes:
light tan interior cover edges
light discoloration back cover spine by staples
2/3" tear left top back cover

If the rest of the book is flawless, maybe an 8.5.
