House of Secrets 92 Cover Only4281

It's gonna be tough tracking down a loose cover for that book, but add an alert to your e-bay account & you might luck out. Rooting for ya, bud.

@00slim good call! I'll do that right now. Thanks!

@Magellan

I don't think there would be a deduction for adding a cover since you're increasing the eye appeal of a coverless book.

@50AE_DE That's can I'm hoping for, though, this is purely hypothetical at the moment.

What colour label would a married cover get given? Still blue??

Collector Magellan private msg quote post Address this user
@nikki666666 I'd assume CBCS has something similar to that other company's purple restored label if it warrants restored status.

Its not classified as a restoration though...@Magellan

If you replace the staples, yes, that's Restoration.

Is your HoS 92 missing staples? Or, are they just rough?

Here's an example of the restored CBCS label off e-bay:

I know Overstreet says vintage staples are ok. Not sure about CBCS, or across the street.

@nikki666666 vintage staples, eh? Ingenious!

Collector Magellan private msg quote post Address this user
@00slim It appears the Staples have gone the way of the cover, so everything will have to be replaced.

If you're gonna replace the staples, definitely use vintage staples. A low grade comic from the 70s shouldn't run you only a few bucks.

Some restoration experts are almost uncanny in their ability to detect things like this, though. Don't be surprised if there's a note about the staples.

I'm not saying don't do it. It's worth the time & effort to get that book to its former glory. Or, some semblance of it.

You will get a blue label from CBCS for the marriage, no restoration noted
You will get a green label from CGC for the marriage, no restoration noted

EXTRA staples from both companies will be treated just as a defect.

If you REPLACE the existing staples, you will at minimum get a conserved label, possibly restored. Really not sure about replacing with vintage... I cannot find confirmation from either company exactly how this is treated; but overstreet allows for it under FN unrestored.

@shrewbeer I can't even imagine how they would know if staples were original or replaced with a similar year staple!

@00slim Oh, I'll definitely give it a try, but I have locate a cover first.

My suggestion would try to find a nice copy with incomplete interior, or damaged interior if you can get it cheaper. Then marry both cover and take the staples from the damaged copy so you will still have HOS 92 staples.

Collector Magellan private msg quote post Address this user
@Philflound That would certainly be another option, though it may prove just as arduous a task as finding a cover by itself! No luck so far!

I'd look at finding a cover as a long term project.

@00slim I am definitely starting to realize that.

Pretty much the ceiling for a book like this would be 1.0, apparent/restored grade.
Post 47 IP   flag post
Collector Magellan private msg quote post Address this user
@CopperAgeKids If I'm able to track down a relatively inexpensive cover, I'd be more than happy with a 1.0 just to know I have a complete copy.

I have a fair number of pre code horror coverless, like fight against crime 20, always hoping to get married someday. Have to play the long game. So while I wait, I find facsimile covers. I have an x men 1 coverless graded NG, now I own a cover for it I bought at a show. Someday I will crack it, although the ad pages are cut out of it, it has extra staples, and is scribbled on. The worst copy of x men 1 on the planet.

@doog Dude, your copy of X-Men 1 is so much better than the one I don't own.

Quick follow-up! I went ahead and purchased a facsimile cover from eBay user breknemdjme11 and it turned out great! This will definitely look legit until (and if) I can find a real cover. Thanks for all the input, guys!

Another follow-up for those interested!

I stole some staples from an extra issue I had lying around (interesting to note that Valiant's VH1 run used much larger staples than others, even modern Marvel issues) and assembled my cover.

Unfortunately, the inside page was completely detached (staple well torn through), but it looks pretty decent overall!
