Finally Saving For That ToS 524230

Collector 00slim private msg quote post Address this user
So, I'm finally getting serious about saving for my grail, a high grade Tales of Suspense 52 (8.0, minimum).

As I do so, I wonder what my fellow board members would invest in given the chance? If you had $1,000-1,500 to spend on one book, what do you think would be the smartest investment?

Hard to say for sure. I know that it would be a Silver or Bronze key. However, off the top of my head, I'm not sure which one it would be.

For me I like the bronze age marvel keys.I'm auctioning off my Iron Man 55 cgc 9.6 next month so whatever that type of money would get me back into one I'm thinking a 9.2 is going to be my sweet spot

depends on it being a pure investment or wanting to have, even a very poor copy of, something already a landmark item. I.e.: Amazing Fantasy #15 in 2 would be ok, so would Flash #123.

After ToS 52, I'm thinking a mid grade Flash 139 will be next.

I'm into Teen Titans - think I've tracked down all appearances until about 1984ish
I would look for a better copy of B&B54 or Teen Titans #1

Yeah - high grade is out of range for me now I think - I do have a CGC 7.0 that with a press might get a bump
I've liked reverse flash forever - this was one of the first books I had graded - didn't want to do it at first because the slab fee was more than I paid for the book!

@00slim - I don't know if it would be the smartest investment, but I need X-Men 1-5 and 9. So for $1500, I would try to pick up a 2 or 4 in nice shape, or see if I could get some combination of 3, 5, and/or 9 in 8.0 or better.

Glad you are saving for your grail!

I think if I decide to save for a big key it will probably be BB28, would take a looooot of saving though lol

Darkga's royal blue Vengeance of Vampirella is a good choice. Rare and cool always do well.
Chamber of Chills 19 is on my list.

@doog So, it's the sweet cover that makes "Chamber of Chills" 19 a pricy book, correct?

I don't know anything about Golden Age horror books. My wife just got into the "Witching Hour" comics from the 70's. The stories aren't really supernatural. Much more of a "Twilight Zone" & "Alfred Hitcock Presents" vibe. The covers are pretty awesome, too.

Speaking of which, if anyone here has the Showcase "Witching Hour" tpb they'd like to sell for $30-$40, in interested.

I also like collecting these. My favorite is a beautiful copy I recently bought of Brave and the Bold #102 - great Neal Adams cover. But a lot of the TT Cardy covers are fantastic, too.

FYI - here is a B&B 54 7.5 on ComicLink.
