GOLDEN AGE "FUNNY ANIMALS"4221

I understand that they're not very popular today but when I was a kid shopping the newsstand it seemed that half the comic books out there were "Funny Animal Comics". Being exposed to cartoons at the movies which mostly featured "Talking Animals" doing human activities it only seemed normal for this to carry over to Comic Books. I certainly bought my share of them and enjoyed them! mm |

Funny Animal comics rarely get talked about here. Oh sure, some do. But most totally ignore them. I don't think I have ever seen a commissioned artwork on a blank cover of a funny animal. And to be honest, I can't remember ever reading one. Even when I was a kid and lived comic books. It was all about superheroes. But I have accumulated many over the years. Strictly from a collectability stand point. Here is one I think you will appreciate MM. And here is another just for fun. But this is a die cut coloring book from the early forties (I think). It is very large. |

I just TODAY bought an original art page of Funny Animals!! I don't have it yet, but here is the picture. It was advertised as "Funny Animals Looting". LOL!! It's obviously Baby Huey!! I know that some of the other characters are usual Baby Huey tagalongs, but I can't remember their names. Also, I'm not sure of the year. It was advertised as page 13 of 14. I'm not even sure it has been published or who the artist is. But I needed it once I saw it!! LOL!! . |

Cool Thread Marty! Here is my favorite non Looney Tunes Funny Animal cover Zoot Comics #2. Really Tough book. Features crudely draw characters and Logo. You have elements of the Crime, Hero, Bondage and GGA genres here. Courtesy of Fox |

Here's another. The Zoot #2 swiped this cover. Even though this one came first i'm still slightly partial to the Zoot, but LOVE this early Timely too. |

And of course, couldn't go without posting a Bugs cover. This is my favorite Bugs Bunny comic book cover. To me, just a nice slice of Americana pop culture |

I dont own this book (yet). It is on my permanent wantlist, specifically for Christmastime decoration. In the past few years I have yet to see it pop up at auction; was really hoping to have one by this Christmas. Bah humbug. |
