ADVICE: Comic Priest to Marry Hulk 181 Pages3989

Collector Darkga private msg quote post Address this user
So I just picked up this awesome remainder copy of Hulk #181 SS Stan Lee. It's graded 0.5, but only for the torn cover; the Marvel Value Stamp is still intact. That gave me the bright idea of finding a high grade copy of Hulk #181 with a missing MVS and marrying this copy's MVS wrap.

Do you think I should just open the staples and do it myself or use a professional? Since it's going to be graded as married, does it even matter? Thanks!

fans usually don't realize the mistakes they make on "special work".

Professional job will get you a better grade 👌🏻 I think I'm decently skilled manipulating paper, but I'd go professional for marrying a cover.

Another option, would be to just marry the value stamp page. Far easier and less likely to damage the nice cover

The latter is the plan actually. Just take the MVS from this one and marry to the nice copy that's missing the MVS. Then sell the leftovers of this one.

That sounds really cryptic for some reason. Please expound.

Totally read your post wrong somehow, thought you said marry the cover but you clearly did not lol

I just realized that Hulk #181 came out in 1974, so it misses the Modern tier cutoff for grading at CBCS. Dang I wanted to do some 2-Day modern on my Frankenstein!

I had no way of knowing that 9.8 graded copies signed by Adam Hughes weren't what you were looking for. drchaos private msg quote post Address this user
For a book of this value use a professional unless you really think you know what you are doing.

You could also get a reprinted cover. Brand new and crispy.

* lacking objectivity on "your" own work
* not knowing a mistake "you" have made
* worse - loving "your" own work of art
Learning the difference when "your" work skill is reviewed by a potential buyer.

I can do it!
Yeah, but can you do it right? And be objective about it?

@det_tobor Good points... If I do it, I'll go with a pro. You guys talked me out of doing it myself.

Nah, it at least has to be OEM parts. It's like a car restoration.

If you do it, you should probably also marry the missing mvs page back into the 0.5 book so it's complete and not missing an entire wrap.

That is a good point.

Why doesn't anyone start a thread about divorcing comics?

Why does no one go back to the pool later to pick up their kids? People are always dropping their kids off at the pool, but they don't go back to get them.

Am I the only one who asks these questions?

All of this was covered in "The Nanny Games"
