Issue 300 is the only ASM Anniversary comic I haven't read. Tried to read it twice but couldn't get past page 4.

Saga is ok - good story but the book itself has peaked around $200

That's pretty much peaked already hasn't it? I don't hear anybody talking bout it. First print hasn't really seen a jump in price yet. But I haven't checked in a while.

I had no way of knowing that 9.8 graded copies signed by Adam Hughes weren't what you were looking for. drchaos private msg quote post Address this user

The RRP variant is up there but I would stick with the regular covers for the sake of our sanity.

It's not like Hulk 181 had any variants (aside from reprints or foreign versions).

Based upon your link it should be Wolverine v2 #1 (1988):1st in Series as it a record sale of $17K. I don't think anyone would say that book is the Hulk 181 of the late 1980's/early 1990's comics.

With the exception of MAD Mag, all these grails from each decade revolve around the first appearance and/or first issue of a new character.

90s- out of Bone, Venom, or Deadpool, I think Deadpool is going to win the day. Venom is a close second, but he isnt 100pct original; too much in common with spidey power?.

2000s - I think TWD show will tank eventually as well. But, even if it does, are there even any Original characters worth mentioning from that decade?

2010s, I have no idea who is new and good enough to mention lol, very interested in others thoughts for this decade!

I went by decade.

TMNT 1 is 1980s
NM 98 is 1990s

AF 15 went for over $1 mil, Showcase can not compete with that.

You are thinking variants. Regular cover is $200-250.

I know the price is nowhere near 181 NOW but i believe original question was what book would be,hypothetically in the future, a "grail" on par w 181 thats been a recent release for this generation.then a list for each decade popped up and 2010s was asked.with a proposed "spiderverse" for sony pictures... all new charecters spidey related may make a bump i.e. spidergwen, gwenom, gwenpool, silk.if just going on current prices of recent books and not POTENTIAL it would probably be some random jim lee variant of dk3 or a variant of spawn 25th anniversary

I havent been paying enough attention to the new books to know for sure, but it doesnt sound like there are any new truly original popular characters the past few decades.

For the 90s it would have easily been Spawn if not for the 1.5 million print run and the "collector's age" of books where plenty of people stashed thousands of NM copies 😬

*Yet* lol

Showcase 4 is way more hard to find than AF 15, especially in higher grade.

IMO the grail of this generation will be WD 1, without a doubt. Low print run numbers, HUGE fan base. Even once the show is gone I still think there will be a demand for that book.

If you ask me FF 1 or even Hulk 1 should be the Marvel book to have from the 1960s. Compared to Marvel the DCs are more scarce but the demand for the webhead is out of control.

@shrewbeer Turtles and Walking Dead include original and highly popular characters that have transcended the comics and made it big on TV shows and movies.

The 1990s and 2010s clearly are a step down from these two huge titles.

Interesting point about Showcase 4.

There are 362 copies of Showcase 4 on the CGC census, with one one the highest grade being a 9.2.

AF 15 has 2513 copies on the CGC census, with four in 9.6 grade.

*corrected.

My mind went straight to GL with Spotlight.

The beginning of this thread is talking about value, not originality.
