I know this alternate cover mock up has circulated around before, but it is so beautiful, I just had to re-post it. If only Stan had used this for the cover. Enjoy and kudos to whomever created it. ![]() |

It's neat but I don't love it. I'm a huge fan of the human torch covers.

First appearance books without a cover appearance make me sad. I wont pay a premium for them. "Quietly and without fanfare". I wonder, what was the motivation behind writing that?![]() |

I prefer the torch cover over the Dr. Strange cover. It's not a very exciting cover.

You have to factor what the industry standards were back then and that food on the table meant producing pages as quickly as possible to the industry's expectations. Some very talented and respected artists will still reference Kirby's layouts and perspectives to get things drawn correctly. He had a background in animation so he knew all the transitions stages from still image to jumping across the room. He squeezed action into every comic. No panel was wasted. |

How to properly position frames to draw the eye from frame to frame etc. He also flat out said Byrne was one of the worst he had ever seen ![]() |

Kirby was a machine. He churned out the art for several of the early Marvel books. He just about singlehandedly lifted Marvel off the floor artistically in those early days doing the layouts and art that took an army of others to ink and finish. Just amazing if you think about it.
