Extra staples and impact on grade3708

I've been reading some of the archived posts about "added staples" and such and think that the 2 extra staples (in addition to the 2 original still in the book) in this silver age Green Lantern #59 might be from the manufacturer. How does a grading company determine whether the extra staples are a printing error and what kind of impact does it have on overall grade? On the less optimistic side, what kind of grade impact if some kid added these extra staples 40 years ago?![]() |

those two extra staples being added by the manufacturer is probably wishful thinking 5.0 |

If they are perfectly in line with the set behind it could be manufacture error. At my work in a publishing printing company when we reset the staples in our booklet feeder the reset causes it to run a test batch through in spacings of 1/4 inch apart. can't really tell how well aligned they are in your pic |

Those staples are not manufacturing. I have a SA X-Men with extra manufacturing staples. Only one set is visible from the cover. The second set is under the cover. As I understand it, some comics would get stapled without a cover because of a misfeed or the covers ran out before the comics. Those stapled coverless comics would then be placed back into the machine and come out with two sets of staples. Comics with one staple missing (manufacturing) are also not rare.

Went against my own decision and threw an offer under asking for the Green Lantern #59 and it was accepted. Guess I have to decide whether or not to remove the staples. Comic Connect had the books estimated grade at 6.0 but I'm not sure if Comic Connect or the seller determines that. Other than the 2 extra staples and the checkmark in pen, this copy looks really good. Guy Gardner is my least favorite Green Lantern so I'm not too concerned haha, just completing my 1st appearances of them all.

My Comic Shop has that same issue with extra non-manufacturing staples in their auction this week! What are the odds? |

As always, appreciate the feedback! I don't know why I'm attracted to books with risk lol need to just pay up for nicer copies
