The show was at best ordinary. As Mr. Ricketts stated it might be better to wait a few weeks and then watch 3 or 4 episodes to see if it gets any better. | ||

Cassidy is a vampire, you learn that in issue #1. Arseface's hero was Kurt Cobain so he wanted to go out like his hero. Didn't quite work out. |

Quote:Originally Posted by SteveRicketts I definitely liked the show but yeah, it could be improved upon.It also needs to be improved upon. I attribute the shortcomings which you hinted at, largely to Rogen & his partner, as they directed the first 4 episodes. As far as the slapstick bit, they got some of that right....namely the drool and expression on Danny's face as Custer broke his arm. That was straight out of the book, essentially. Rogen/Goldman don't have the experience to direct a dark drama, in several ways. That is evidenced by the direction of the scene wherein Custer breaks Danny's arm.You hear over reaching music kick in, along with the overdone/overacted expressions of the bar patrons & Sheriff Root. Dominic Cooper's facial expression, shown in a close up after he had broken Danny's arm, was also overacted. Cooper does have the acting chops to play a character like Custer, he did so in Devil's Double. But most of the blame for that subpar acting falls on the director(s). Cooper did pretty well in most other scenes, there were a couple other parts that were overacted (or over directed, which is just as fitting). According to a review I read (which I will find and post up here shortly), a new director took the helm at episode 5 and the tone took a detour into the more dark and serious vein. That was very good news, to me. |
