How many seasons (if it's successful) will it run based on the comic book series?

You mean the graphic novels, as if that gives them more legitimacy

Haha! I hate that! 😅

Funny books. I meant funny books.

Does that translate to about three seasons?

If it's successful and they run out of source material, then they'll just make shit up.

Not impressed so far. I may not make it to the end of this episode.

This episode is an hour and a half long. I've never read the comic, so even though it's a little dry and superfluous, I appreciate the groundwork.

I may let it run for a few seasons before I watch it again. That way I don't have a week between episodes.

I don't see myself watching this on a schedule.

I thought it was pretty good.Especially liked the bit when the character took Jesse's word literally and cut his heart out...loved Deblanc & Fiire at the end.Reminded me of the 2 Mexican brothers who were cartel hitmen in Breaking Bad.

Loved Jesse's incantation of "that's why I've come home.To save you".

I would gave liked to see more of that kind of an unnerving vibe but they can't just go all out without introducing the show to casual viewers....yet.

Based on the ending of the first episode, I think the tone will become more grim, soon enough. That is what I loved about the comic itself.

Agree with you on the too much set up bit but for those who haven't read the serie i.e.the majority of people who watch the show, the "too much" set up was definitely needed to understand what was happening.

For a reference point, the print run on an average issue of Walking Dead is what...around 75,000 copies?

The average ratings for season 6 of the WD is 13.15 million

Hence, the rationale for what seems like too much set up, to people who have read the whole run of Preacher a dozen times over.(myself, you etc etc)

To anybody who hasn't read the comics, you really should. A tv show can never capture the magic Garth and Steve had with this book. Yeah, I know that's been said before about tv, but this comic needs to be read/seen to be truly appreciated. Kinda like Watchmen, where the visual genius/layout of the comic is lost on the screen. The expressions on the faces of some of Dillon's characters are just perfect.

My wife thought is was "meh". I thought it was pretty interesting, but obviously they put a lot into introducing characters quickly and setting up the story line. I expect future episodes to flow better and make more sense.

Time will tell.

P.S. I have never read one of the Preacher books. And I doubt I ever will. I read very little nowadays. I just collect covers.

I was hoping for dark and serious.
What we got was slapstick and "Kill Bill."

The show was at best ordinary. As Mr. Ricketts stated it might be better to wait a few weeks and then watch 3 or 4 episodes to see if it gets any better.
