Which CGC slabs to avoid.3694

| I'm new to the slabbing of comics and thus far have only dealt with CBCS, and listening to some of the horror stories about some CGC slabs causing "creeping", "warping" and "Newton rings(!)" etc I'm glad I have. Is there any way to ascertain whether or not a comic is in one of these rogue slabs, as ebay photos don't always give clear enough pictures. Is there anything obvious to look out for on the label,for instance,or anything that indicates that the slab may be defective? |

| Run the CGC verify on the cert number. If it was slabbed between April 2016 to June 2016, that was the faulty cgc slab. I wouldn't buy it. Or you can pay to have it reholdered. | ||

| Visually the "good" slabs can be identified by the presence of and inner plastic well holding the comic. The #CreepEngine does not have an inner well, it holds the comic between two sheets of mylar via pressure from the outer shell. | ||

| If you can see those diamond shaped recesses at the 4 corners of the comic it has an inner well. There is also a different inner well without those that you can see the weld seams running down the sides. If it lacks both of those identifying features it is probably a #CreepEngine. | ||

| @Redshade that auction you linked is in the original slab before they changed, so you're good. You can tell the older slabs because the grade number is gray instead of black and does not have the page quality right under the grade. | ||

| The wavy label is not uncommon with those older slabs, won't effect the book. | ||

| BTW, reslabbing won't help with Newton Rings, it's a fundamental flaw with the CGC slab design. | ||

| I have about 50 cbcs slabs, none have Newton rings. I have about 40 or so cgc slabs, all of them have Newton rings. I can only speak to my personal experience. Maybe other people have better luck with cgc cases? | ||

| Same experience. I have never seen Newton rings on any of my CBCS slabs. I've never seen a CGC which didn't have them, including the newest version post creep. | ||

| My WW50 Gal Gadot CGC SS had horrible newton rings. They did a free reholder in a thicker case that eliminated the problem. | ||
