Will nyx 3 in 9.8 continue to rise in value3681

Collector rckstr1253 private msg quote post Address this user
Will nyx3 in 9.8 condition continue to rise in value or will it most likely steady or drop in value? I am debating on getting one in a month or 2 but is the current $900 plus for a 9.8 the going rate or will it come back down to $500-$600 where it was before the movie?

It will drop. Take your grand and buy something old SA or GA key, or not so key but in high grade. High grade golden age are hard to find. Anything 9.4 on up is where you want to be. Those continue to creep up as time passes.

I had no way of knowing that 9.8 graded copies signed by Adam Hughes weren't what you were looking for. drchaos private msg quote post Address this user
I have been loading up on NYX 4s since the 3s have spiked. I did buy a full set 1-7 recently.

I am getting them all signed by Joe Quesada. Unfortunately Josh Middleton has cancelled two consecutive shows including SDCC.

I love the x23 character and want her first appearance but cant see spending $1000 on her. Heck nm98 goes for around that

Last year Overstreet listed it for $200 in NM 9.2. The new Overstreet (came out today) has it listed for $350 in that condition. I'd say chances are pretty good

It will peak and drop. Think of comics like stocks. Sell at the top of the market and buy at the bottom. Instead of investing your money in NYX 3's right now, buy a comic that is at low value but has potential to jump up later.

I'll be waiting for it to drop in value and maybe we'll get lucky and they'll make an X-23 movie franchise sometime in the future.

Well thanks for the pointers guys. Yea its not meant to invest in but to have for my persinal collection. I had a few copies but sold when the market was high on them. I regret it in one sense as i love the character and should of kept a copy.

If you love the character you could always buy a 9.6 and save a few hundred.

I'm shocked people are paying such ridiculous prices for that book. I assume it will drop in value.

But the one's that you sold at the peak you can always rebuy them again when they are cheaper. The only books that will continually rise and hold their value are the KEY Golden and Silver age books. Everything else is a roller coaster.

Good point guys! Im focusing more on silver age stuff/bronze age. I do think some moderns will eventually hold key status like a silver age book some day. Such as web of spiderman 118 and 119, amazing spiderman 300 etc

To me some books are just pump and dump books, NYX, NM, batgirl 12 there all at a price because of movies. Now AF 15 ASM 1,50,129,300, Ghost rider 1 marvel spotlight 5. incredible hulk 1-6,181. Xmen 1,94,95,96 giant size 1 These are not pump and dump books and have always held a certain price with consistency. There are a lot more, if you are going to buy to keep there are plenty of Golden, silver and bronze books that are keys that will maintain/retain value. Just my 2 cents not the whole dollar.

Batman Adventures #12 is not a pump and dump. Harley Quinn was hot before any movies and will stay hot after the movies. imo

I think if your putting money into books that have a history and established characters that are relevant in comics/movies today you should be safe. Just don't overpay for the privilege of owning a "Hot" book.I am so interested in how the Walking dead is going hold up after the show goes off the air and if the book goes out of print. I say the walking dead thing not to hate on it I'm just curious if it has staying power.

It will hold and rise. NYX 3 has steadily risen in value for over a decade. That is despite movies, Wolverine being around, etc. If anyone thinks this book is magically going to drop significantly just hasn't paid any attention to the market at all.

Too often people's hate for "modern" or a character taints their senses.

I bet TWD spawns more spin offs and keeps going forever like Star Trek.

Nyx 3 with Stan Lee signature is the best. Cause he created Wolverine and X-23. #truth

@rckstr1253 I want to get a 9.8 myself as well, I'm going to hold off until around Thanksgiving or so hoping it will drop just a bit. Good call on the 9.8, in terms of investment for moderns the higher the grade the more secure you are.

The movie certainly spiked it up and it will come back down; BUT IT WONT COME DOWN TO PRE-MOVIE LEVELS. That time has passed. Anytime I've ever seen a key book spike in value for a tv show or movie, the value comes down a bit after (market correction), then continues it's steady rise as it did before.

This is what nosto is putting out for NYX. Notice the spike has not completed yet. The purple is 9.8, blue line 9.4. Once I see a definitive slight drop, that's when I'll start shopping.

For comparison, here is Hulk 181 (blue NM line). You can see the 2009 movie spike, the 2013 rush of sales, and the current spike going (which seems to be leveling now). Neither spike corrected back to pre-movie levels, but it did drop down a bit before steadily rising again

Why waste your time going for 9.8? Get a 9.9 instead.

It will hold, but it will not rise in any significant form over the next decade.

It's jump in price outpaced the overwhelming majority of books, but it's a not going anywhere for a long time to come.

My prediction is that it will dip a bit within the next six months.

@OrbitCityComics Agree, also this is not a low print comic. So scarcity will not be a factor in it's price. The only thing that might be hard to find in the future is an unsigned version.

I somewhat disagree. I don't see a majority of the current key books dropping in price all that much. Examples: TWD #1, The Preacher #1, The Batman Adventures #12. If by chance they do in the foreseeable future, the question you have to ask yourself is has the price dropped drastically enough to now purchase and is it now still a good investment?

Someone should create a site that tracks key books in real time like the New York Stock Exchange tracks stock prices.
