matter of fact, i was just talking to somebody while standing in line for HOURS in the Rickmobile talking about his pokemon cards. he sold a ton of them the original ones for thousands of dollars i believe him because he and his friends seemed very snoody and stuck up rich like and he spoke of his dad in the stock market like richie rich and whatnot

does that story help you?

@BigRig I just saw an episode of Pawn Stars where I guy brought in his graded Pokemon card collection. He wanted $500,000. Rick looked at him like he had two heads lol. So Rick calls up his expert buddy to check out the cards. Expert appraised the collection at over $300,000.

In 1995 I passed on a trade of my Barry Bonds 1993 Finest Refractor for Star Wars #1-4 35 cent versions, all in near mint condition. I not only passed on the offer, I laughed at it. And to make it worse, I had 2 of the refractors. Bugs me still.

October 29, 2012 - lived a block from the beach in the Rockaways. With Hurricane Sandy on her way I put my long box of high grade silver and bronze age key books on the highest shelf in my basement. We got 8 feet of water, my basement was only 7 foot high! nuff said.

Serious question: With a hurricane coming, why did you not put them in the upstairs of the house or evacuate with at least one longbox?

I bought a CGC membership once... ONCE! In my defense I didn't know CBCS existed at that time.

Darka, I had gone through Hurricane Irene a year earlier and we got no water in our basement. No one expected the entire peninsula would be covered in ocean tides. We in hind sight would have evacuated had we known the extend. People lost their homes and lives so I still count my blessings. I am enjoying the slow road back to restoring my collection. Take care.

At open mic night once, I tried some stand up comedy. It was surely my biggest comic failure and my biggest regret.

The first thing you always show the daughter's boyfriend is daddy's shotgun.

then he would of been missing those books and a shotgun

First you always ask to speak with skeezy boyfriend privately, rack a round of your choice of handgun and calmly threaten him with death if he hurts your daughter or steals your comics. If he's real skeezy, don't be afraid to...nevermind, not looking to get banned for giving you all good...uhhh bad ideas.

Edit: I will consider ALL my daughter's boyfriends to be skeezy until proven otherwise.

Yup. Depending on where you live, I would rather be out comics than a shotgun. Law enforcement in Cali doesn't like to hear that a firearm is missing.

First and foremost, I'm glad that you and your family made it out ok. I grew up in Florida, so I know how devastating hurricanes can be. I apologize if my message came off the wrong way by the way. I'm also just super paranoid about water getting to my comics, so I keep them on the highest level of my house just in case.

So true!! California is (f)illed with liberals that are bringing this state to it's knees. This state is going down faster than the Titanic.

After my gf dropped this bomb on me, I regret that this hasn't happened yet:

What if there was a comic or movie starring Batman and Deadpool themed like a cheesy 80s police show where Batman is the grizzled veteran and Deadpool is like the 'rookie' or what have you.

@MrMeeseeks Can you talk to people with lots of time and money and make this crossover work? You might live... a little while.

In 1963 I was continually being pestered by a neighborhood kid to sell him some spideys.

So in November of that year (the week JFK was assassinated)I gave in and sold frickin Mario ASM #'s 1-5 for the grand total of $10. Based on the condition of My #'s 6-10, they'd have been somewhere in the graded 7.5 to 9.0 range.

It was actually a fair deal as the collecting part of the hobby was just getting off the ground. However when I was selling My collection early-mid 2000's, they would've been worth probably $10,000-$20,000...

My only consolation is that I refused to let AF 15 go, and kept it for another 45 years.

My first job was working at a comic book store, back in 1987; I was 16, making $3.35 an hour. A Detective #31 came in the store and Will, who ran the counter that day, was showing it to me. It was really beat up, but complete, cover attached ... so maybe a 1.8 or 2.0?

Anyway, I thought to myself, you know, just owning a Batman comic that old, no matter how beat up, would be pretty damn cool. So I asked him what it would sell for. I remember he said, "Well, this comic I would say would probably grade as 'shit' ... and so it would be" - checks Overstreet - "about $50." I thought it over, looked it over, thought about it some more, and then said, "Okay, alright ... I can do that." So I paid fifty bucks and took it home.

Well, Will called me later that day in a panic. The owner was planning on selling it for WAY more than fifty bucks, and could I please, pretty please, bring it back, return it for a refund? I'm in so much trouble, I don't want to get fired, etc. Well, Will was a great guy and I totally understood, so I said sure. (Soon after the owner also called; he hadn't talked to Will yet, and so he also explained the mistake, asked VERY nicely if I would bring it back. I told him 'of course' too.) The next day when I returned it, I asked the owner what he planned to sell it for. He said $250. Whoa.

That was a pretty absurd price I thought, and much more than I could afford on a lark to own a comic, just because it was really old, even an awesome Batman comic. So I never really minded not paying the $250. It's just not realistic to think I would have, or almost did, because it wasn't really close. I just wasn't in a position to overpay that much at 16 years old making peanuts for the summer.

Anyway, I saw recently a 1.5 copy of that issue sold for $17,000.

Now I tell people: Hey - I got to own it for a day, and read it (VERY carefully), and that's pretty cool anyway.
