After reading through, I'm not sure there is much else that can top that.

Rookies!!
In 1974, I bought Amazing Spider Man 1-15 for $50.00 (down from $100.00) and sold them for $525.00 and a complete set of RAT PATROL CARDS in 1980 (I needed to make car payments), 1976, bought Journey Into Mystery 83 (near mint) for $40.00 and that same year sold it for $80.00 and lastly in 1976, I bought 3,000 comic books for $1,000.00 or 30ยข each. One of them was X-MEN 1 which I sold for $110.00 in 1986 to goto RENO, NV and I lost it. I cry every time I think about this.

Wow sorry to be reading but also refreshing to know im not the only one that has been screwed from time to time. I still wish that old man hadnt ripped the book from my hands. He definitely knew the book was worth more than my mom had thought it was worth. My mom sold these rare toys she had as a kid that were handed down from my great grandmother who lived through the great depression. They were tin/aluminum toys and some fetch high dollars now. She sold them for 10cwnts a piece or so

Not a comic but I had most of the original Star Wars action figures and play sets. Since I was 6-8 years old when I got them they got played with and abused.

I also remember cutting out the five proof of purchases from the action figure backing to send in for Boba Fett or Bossk action figures.

My mom only let me read one superhero and luckily 2000s Green Lantern books aren't worth much but I have a huge card collection regret story.

My dad was a very successful businessman in the air cargo industry and would travel all the time. He would try to buy my love with basketball cards and would bring me back rookie cards of almost all the greats like Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and I even had two of Michael Jordan's rookie cards...any card I asked for he would find. He would buy me whatever I wanted, my interest eventually turned to Pokemon and Magic and my collection included a Alpha set Black Lotus and some 1st edition base set foil Charizards along with a complete 1st edition base set. Anyway, I was a spoiled little kid and didn't appreciate what I had so I kept all these cards in 9 card sleeves in a zip up binder that I took everywhere. One day on a drive in Hawaii (where I grew up) I had to pee really bad while at a gas station and stupid me took my binder to the bathroom...and left it there. Lost my mind in the car about 5 minutes later and went back only to find that it was gone and there was no security footage. I've never felt so sick in my life.

On the brightside, my dad left when I was 12 and spent the rest of my youth poor as crap so I definitely learned the value of money and to appreciate what I have. Life lessons.

Mine is also not comic related. I had complete collections of hockey cards from about 1978 to 1982 or 1983. The full sets were in pristine condition and I also had lots of doubles, with some of them probably having 6 or seven extras. If you know hockey 1979 was the rookie year for Wayne Gretzky, and I know that I had lot's of duplicates from that year. I sold the entire collection for $20 around 1986 or '87. The value of a Gretzky rookie card in nm is just insane.

Back shortly after I bought my house (17 yrs ago), I came home from work to find my kitchen floor flooded. The pipe below the sink had burst and it had been flooding for hours. There were no shut-off valves, so I had to run down the basement to shut off the main water valve. When I got downstairs, it was like it was raining down there.
I had about 10 short boxes up off the floor on shelves. They were soaked, but I was able to salvage the majority of the books. What was a complete loss was the box of over-sized comics that I had sitting on the floor. In it were 2 copies of TMNT #1, a copy of TMNT #2, and a bunch of other over-sized books (Elfquest, etc). The whole box went out into the dumpster.
Keep in mind, I had been out of the hobby for a number of years, so I didn't have a clue of the value of the books that I tossed. If it had happened today, they wouldn't have gone in the dumpster.
At the time, all I could think about was keeping my tools from rusting.

matter of fact, i was just talking to somebody while standing in line for HOURS in the Rickmobile talking about his pokemon cards. he sold a ton of them the original ones for thousands of dollars i believe him because he and his friends seemed very snoody and stuck up rich like and he spoke of his dad in the stock market like richie rich and whatnot

does that story help you?

@BigRig I just saw an episode of Pawn Stars where I guy brought in his graded Pokemon card collection. He wanted $500,000. Rick looked at him like he had two heads lol. So Rick calls up his expert buddy to check out the cards. Expert appraised the collection at over $300,000.
