Market for Printer Plates?3515

Collector KingNampa private msg quote post Address this user
Saw this one on ebay. ASM 252 Plates.

I didn't even know you could buy these things. Are they a good investment? Asking price of $100k seems high for non-key.

If they are authentic print plates, they are cool but not 100k cool. It's not a key issue. And they always make more than 1 print plate in case one breaks or cracks.

Typically yes, atleast they use to. The plates are made by an engraver that traces an image. This one is cool but 100k is high, maybe 50k. Also sometimes they number the plates for smelting when the are done.

That's pretty cool but 100k? I could spend that money in allot of diffrent different ways than plates. Id say they laser cut them now instead of by hand. Never seen the plates before.

I think I'm going to buy 2017 Porsche 911 instead for $100k. I think I'll have more fun with that.

I'd buy a super model, or at least rent one for a year.

It's cute you think you could rent a supermodel for a year for 100K

Seller says he's open to trades, in case anyone has one of these items laying around.

"I will also consider interesting trades such as: a cameo appearance in a Marvel Comics movie, 2017 Maserati Alfieri, or seat on an upcoming Virgin Galactic space flight."

I've always wondered about the British B/W reprints of US comics in the 50s. And even the Marvel UK reprints in the 70s/80s/90s

How was this effected?

Back in the 50s/60s (no computer generated images of course) did they physically send metal printing plates to the UK (and other countries that reprinted US material)or were photo-stats
or similar used?

The most I'd spend is $15. Actually, I don't even want it.

I have the printing plates that Newsday used the day Cal Ripken broke the record. I have no idea what its worth but I turned down $3500. I know there were only 3 made for the newspaper. I have no idea how many are made for a comic.

It's cool but not for 100K.
