mine isn't autographed, but very valuable if 9-8-9.9 or above. mine looks better than 9.8. no defects as i can see. should cbcs grade this 1? can be worth $740.00 if 9.9 or above.

@mattbanks As a general rule, never think anything looks "better than a 9.8" as it will only lead to disappointment. Definitely don't make your decision based on the value of a 9.9. Those prices are super-inflated due to their rarity.

If the value of a 9.4 or a 9.6 makes grading the book appealing to you then do it or use a grade screen to ensure only books that meet a minimum grade are encapsulated.

A 9.8 is the highest grade you can reasonably expect to get and it takes one small flaw that you didn't notice to knock it below even that.

9.8 still good i'll take that any day. why is 9.9 or 10.0 hard to find?

Yes very hard to get a 9.9 or 10.

If you are untrained at grading and you think you have a 9.8, it's probably not close.

@mattbanks basically to get a 9.9 or a 10, you need to convince multiple grading experts that the book does not have any flaw that they can downgrade the book for, which includes any damage that might have been incured through even careful handling like any sort of wear on the cover, pages, corners, ticks, even non-color-breaking ones on the spine, etc. Not to mention any issues that may be i troduced by not packing the books tightly enough, packing them too tightly, anything that might have happened in shipping, unpacking, and there is even the chance the book may be damaged, in whatever degree, during grading itself.

Then there's the fact that grading, while somewhat fairly well defined, is still subjective and now your're talking about applying it to the furthest extreme of the grading scale where a grader who would've given a book a 10 one day may give the exact same book in the exact same condition a 9.9 or even a 9.8 on another day

You have a better chance of seeing a Bigfoot than seeing a 10 from a company not named PGX.

You have a better chance of Bowling another 300 game first before getting a 9.9 or 10.

@mattbanks nevermind a 9.9 or 10, when I want a 9.8 I know I'll need to send in at least 3 books that I believe are candidates to be sure I get my 9.8.

And yes @DarthLego, bowling is hard! I think I scored 40-something last time I tried it 😁

So true. And the reason for that is I only collect 1982 and back. My CONAN THE BARBARIAN #1 (King Size Annual) graded by CBCS came back as a 9.8 and my HULK #102 came back as a 9.6 from CBCS. So getting a 9.9 or 10 would be verrrry rare indeed. :-)

If you want to guarantee the grade, buy them already graded.
