If a fire starts in the room that you're safe is in and the fire department gets the fire out within an hour, you're probably borderline. Fire is always a gamble when it comes to safes, even if you are willing to drop serious amounts of cash on one (UL Data safe comparable to the size you have is about 14K).
Nonsense, he could purchase a data grade safe with a larger overall interior by volume for well under 7k. (7.87 cu.ft. compared with 6.4 cu.ft.)
And this is the one I'd feel comfortable recommending:

Safe deposit boxes are fine for fire protection. The only risk ...granted, a very small one... would be if the bank had a fire. In that scenario you'd also have to be concerned about the possibility of water damage in the vault area.
The more important consideration is that in a bank you have little control over the internal vault conditions that might interact with pulp paper. Heat conditions in vault areas vary from bank to bank. Unless specified, bank liability may not extend to cover damage to collectibles from heat exposure or so-called "acts of god" while in their care.

Excellent suggestion. Probably overkill, but better to err on the side of caution. Without knowing the safe's interior construction and what materials might off-gas this is the best insurance against collectibles being exposed to potentially corrosive by-products. |
