I'm biased, but that's because Robbins drew characters I really liked. You could make a case that it's six of one, half a dozen of the other

If Frank Robbins isn't a terrible artist then no one is. Everyone can draw. Whee!

And here is the issue with Ramos.
He seems to be a cartoonist trying to be a comic book artist.
His heavy cartoony influences like Disney & anime/manga styles are not pleasant to behold if you're looking for a "grown-up" or intellectually engaging experience.

Scottie Young is another that I abhor. I find the artistic immaturity of the style offensive and disengaging.

While I'm at it, I might as well express my distaste for those stupid Funko POP! figures.
Every time I see one it makes me wretch.

That shows fluidity of movement.

Like a good bowel movement

Nope not just him, I kinda dig Robbins too. I think it's one of those things that's so bad that you just can't look away. I know Robbins did a lot of Cap work but I most liked his work in Invaders.

At least Robbins was consistent throughout his career. If you look at Kirby, for example, he went from being iconic to being complete garbage in the 70s.

So because someone's style isn't realistic their work can't be intellectually engaging? What about David Mazzucchelli, Frank Miller, Greg Capullo, not exactly the most realistic figure drawing you've ever seen. But some of the most intellectually engaging stories in recent memory told with their drawings. To each their own but to say that an artists work basically dumbs down a story is kind of unfair.

It may be unfair, but it's completely true. The Demon Bear story that begins in New Mutants #18 is a great story line and provides a lot of insight into the Danielle Moonstar character. However, to me, Bill Sienkiewicz's art rendered it unreadable.

John Romita, Jr.

My opinion solidified after this recent JRJR Tribute by DC. I didn't find his art very good.
The only good cover I liked was the Harley Quinn #27 cover he did.

I think he's overrated. What do you think?

I didn't like his work on the Uncanny X-Men. After enjoying Paul Smith's run, it was unpleasant indeed.

His recent work is unappealing. Just don't like his current style. However, go back to late 70s/early 80s Iron with Romita Jr and Layton and it's awesome. I liked Jr jr's work on Daredevil. A lot of that was inked by Al Williamson.

I think you misinterpret the expression of my opinion as an attack.
The story may be a great one but if the artwork turns you off, it can ruin the composition as a whole.
I don't want to read a story if I can't stand to look at the artwork.

But yeah, I agree with you on John Romita Jr's later work. His art in Wolverine "Enemy of the State" isn't pleasant to look at.

Amen brutha, he's another one who should never be drawing mainstream characters. At least he had the decency to stick with his own Indy title and "Lil X-Men" variant covers.

I also liked his Thor run in the late 90s, I think his style fit the book.

His runs on spidey in the 2000's were pretty good (the 9/11 issue) . I also like his run on avengers with Bendis, reminded me of his thor run.
