What are your thoughts on the early DC ATOM books?

@Dshel61, I do kind of feel like they're undervalued, actually. Is an Atom movie in the works?

Captain Atom, from Space Adventures ... now THOSE are seriously undervalued when looking at other DC characters from the same time period. First DOOM Patrol in My Greatest Adventure... IF you can find decent copies.

The first Doom Patrol in My Greatest Adventure #80 has been steadily increasing in value over the last few years. Graded 8.0 copies have been selling for just over $1000 lately. Of course compared to X-Men #1 which sells for around $12,000 in 8.0, it's no contest. Ironically, both series' original runs got canceled in the late 60's, early 70's, but of course the X-Men experienced a renaissance but the Doom Patrol just never caught on again in the same way even though it's been re-launched several times since.

Wonder Woman... that ship has kinda sailed guys, what an opportunity! On the Nostomania Twitter feed, go back to November of last year and you see an All Star Comics 8, CBCS GD- 1.8, one-point-eight!, selling for $27,485.00. Go just a bit further back to October, and we have a Wonder Woman 98, CGC VG- 3.5, selling for $1,792.50. I mention these because I only post items to the Twitter feed that, at the time, my algorithms consider outliers (items that sell for multiples above or below the current Nostomania value. So again, it's supply and demand, and movies are now the primary driver.

@TommyJasmin i've been looking at the Nostomania site. seems very interesting . can you tell me how it's different in gather prices than GPA or GoCollect? do you include CBCS graded comics in your pricing? thanks.

Can't think of a particular series, but a few covers stand out. There are s lot of obscure golden age books that are hot strictly because of the cover content. This is one that commands modest prices in comparison to others I've seen with such things going on: you have a man, striking a woman, and apologizing , but saying he's really a nice guy or she'd be dead.
And the creative use of the giant skull? A master work in my mind.

This is another one. Not anything ' outlandish' but really well rendered IMHO. I think it's underrated as a Matt Baker work as are a lot of his non romance pieces. I don't expect that to last long as collectors are being priced out AND the scarcity of a lot of the romance pieces available, folks will start looking at the non romance books closer

And then there's this ; Everett is more revered, but this is as outrageous as any Venus cover in my eye.

Hi sugarman - thanks for kicking the tires, awesome

I think the main difference is I don't just gather sales, I use the data to compute pricing for every item in the Nostomania database, with separate computations for uncertified and all major certification agencies (including CBCS of course).

Because I compute pricing for everything, members are able to enter their entire collection in My Lists, and Nosto will automatically compute an estimate of your collection value for you, and keep it up-to-date. I'm happy to answer any other questions...

Agreed, and great looking copy. I think all the St John issues of Wild Boy Baker covers (#11-#15) are very underrated. Here's another one from the run:

I'm onboard with Captain Atom (though Space Adventures 33 does command a pretty price these days). I think it's an interesting character. That said, having both Captain Atom and Dr Manhattan in the same universe is a bit confusing and maybe blurs the significance of the character a bit.

That one is another cool one. Will probably catch on soon because a 'Baker Babe' is on the cover. I have that also, and yes, all the Wild Boy covers are winners. With all the 'focus'(runs, publishers, characters) stuff i'm after it's too 'late' in the game for me to embark on building another scarce and expensive set, so i won't own any Baker romance. All the other Baker stuff, i try and grab what i like when i can.

@CrocHntr I agree that Matt Baker's art is awesome and he is definitely an underrated artist. But I just wonder if the Millenium generation even is aware of his work. As older gererations die off, I wonder if the younger people will still desire his work. I hope so. Or will they be seeking out books like X-Men Gold #1. Makes you wonder. I am partial to the Bronze age myself, being I almost 50 years old.

I'm hard pressed to think of many (or any) comics that are truly under-valued. However, I think there are a lot that are "under-appreciated" or "under-rated". Trying to get people interested in comics outside of normal buying/reading habits has been a problem in this hobby/industry for a long time. On the plus side, I can still find many great comics with interesting stories, awesome art and/or beautiful covers for reasonable prices, since few others appreciate these books.

The first season of Riverdale has been really good so far.

The new Archie series and Afterlife with Archie both stand to benefit from it.

Some of those variant covers might be hard to find in high grade.

I'm gonna have to say the early 'John Carter' comics from Dell are still undervalued.

The fact that the movie flopped has probably made it a buyer's market (for now). I'm still looking for a Very Fine copy of the first appearance.

It's tough to find in the wild. I might just have to pull the trigger VIA e-Bay.

Came across these in my collection the other day, looking for slab candidates.

What about the Secret War series (2004) written by Bendis and painted by Dell'Otto, including some fantastic black background covers of some of Marvel's most popular characters...How could you go wrong with that combination? And I believe it was Dell'Otto's first comic series.

I haven't read it since it first came out...but have the issues...was the story that bad or insignificant? I'm considering slabbing my issues (see attached) just because they looked so cool (might try for Bendis/Dell'Otto sigs first, though).

I would think after 13 years it's hard to find these in 9.8 shape. The few sales I see on Ebay are pretty low...$20 to $50 for 9.8...NM set for $10 (raw)!!! What gives? Did Bendis/Dell'Otto hit a dud?
