It's pretty accurate if you go by Diamond catalog order sales from retailers for the past 15 years I suppose. It also seems to fit the profile when I am scanning ebay listings.

I will tell you this right here, right now: It's SUPER FUN trying to search for "Spider-man McFarlane NM" or "Spider-man J Scott Campbell NM" and only train your eyes on BARCODES. You would not believe how hard it is to find Newsstand editions.

For 2000-2005 books, you have to train your eyes on the bar codes that DO NOT say "Direct Edition", or the bar code is slanted upwards higher with no text above the bar code.

The catch is "High grade" 9.2 or better upc barcodes with no spine ticks or rack dents. Very challenging and very fun.

This IS the new hunt, people. Take advantage of it before others catch on quick.

I'm finding that any books over 2000-2002 starts getting impossible to find newstand upc versions that do not state "DIRECT EDITION". It's a little more common but not impossible for 1991-1999. I also am finding that 1991-1992 and 1997-1999 are the hot spots.

The trouble is finding 9.8s. You can get them dirt cheap IF you can find them. 9.2 and under are a dime a dozen just like the spidey and cap heads are

Anything 9.4+ is good for the guide and good enough for me imo

Always nice to see an ebay package on my desk in the morning 😁

High grade 1st Omega Red. Very slight roll, with a press it has a legit shot at a 9.8.

You can get these in captainheads all day long on ebay in mint for a dime a dozen. This one was very difficult to track down!

Some of these are cool. I don't actively search for newsstand copies, but some of the info on the books has been intriguing. I never thought much about them when I was 12 and walking up to the local Kroger or K-Mart to buy a couple new comics when I couldn't go to the LCS.
