So is the invincible #1 Larry comics variant considered a variant or reprint? It came out the same month and year as invincible #1 but not sure what to consider this?

Really an "after-the-fact" variant.

It's labeled as "Larry's Comics Exclusive" with a production date of December 2003.

Isn't that a printed date earlier than invincible #1 first printing?

And thanks for the help guys. I keep meaning to buy invincible #1 but prices were too high for my taste and now with them going up, I am debating on getting a Larry variant one instead.

True story.

I bought 10 of these from Larry in early 2004 or something on eBay.

He packaged them like crap.

As a result, they all got corner smashed. What were all brand new 9.8 copies become 9.0s, 9.2s...you know the drill.

When I brought this to Larry's attention, he said, basically, piss off. Of course, I never got replacements.

I've never given Larry a dime since.

That Larry...always good for a laugh.

I was mad about it a long time ago, but I got over it.

Now, I just give Larry dirty looks when I pass by his booth at Baltimore, and tweak him online when I can.

The thing I respect about Larry is that he's honest about it. If he doesn't like something, or someone, he'll say it. You know where you stand with him.

Better the enemy with the sword to your face, than the "friend" with the knife at your back.

Remember what I said about collectors being addicts..? That's why a charmer like Larry can stay in business for 25+ years.

Good points doc. In your opinion since the price of the 1st print is way out of my price range with a 9.8 going for $1000 plus, is it better to own a fine to very fine first print raw or get a 9.8 Larry limited for about $350?

The advice is always to buy the best quality you can.

That means original first print, in the highest grade you can afford. If that's only a F/VF, that would be better, if you're looking at it as an "investment" perspective, than even the highest quality reprint.

There are cheaper reprints than Larry's reprint out there.

Also, unless you want it for yourself, I wouldn't spend the money on it. Much, much too volatile. Put the money in nice grade GA or SA keys.

Thanks doc, well is the Larry edition really a reprint as Steve said its production date was dec 2003 and the normal printing is january 2003.

The Larry book is generally not desired, in my opinion and from my observation. Surprised to read it is selling for $350.

Let me know if you want mine ...I'm typing this before I go search "solds" ...but I have one signed (well, triple signed but only one mainstream signature). I have no issue giving you a more than fair price..whatever that may be

Unless you did a typo...you answered your own question. January precedes December by 11 months.
