Thick cover Pressing (The Killing Joke)2401

Hi @SteveRicketts. Can you take a look at the pictures and tell me if you can press out these creases? The cover is a thick one from Batman: The Killing Joke.

For the money you would spend pressing and grading you can buy a 9.6 for 100.00 all day long. And odds are even if you had every crease and bend pressed out it appears some won't come out completely, therefore never getting a 9.6 or even close. Some times its better to buy a turn key comic in some situations instead fighting and uphill battle on a very common comic you can readily find. Hell I can't throw a rock in my LCS without hitting a copy of that book.
If you are going to have someone press a book spend the pressing on a more uncommon or rarer book.

It's not my book. I have someone who sent me this book to get Mark Hamill's Signature and they need to know if it can be pressed.

Well if Mark Hamill's signature hasn't been put on the book yet, then do the dude a solid and buy him a NM raw copy for around 50.00 and have him sign a nice copy.

I bought a slabbed 9.6 for $100 just last week.

This book has an embosed title on the cover, I'm not sure if a presser would be able to do one of these without damaging the embossing.

There are defects that yield limited success on thick covers. I don't think you'd want to have this particular book pressed.

I'm with Steve on this. I wouldn't mess with it. You're more likely to screw it up.

The spine sress breaks color. I would do what @earthshaker01 recommended.

Just what I was looking for. Thanks Steve.

More specifically, cardboard (which is what this is) is much less forgiving. You can flatten these flaws, but you cannot make them disappear, because the cardboard has been damaged beyond repair. Plus, because of the overlaid layer of plastic, which scuffs realllly easily, even if you flatten the flaws, they will still show because they have been scuffed.

Cardboard is terribly unforgiving.

Steve, or any other competent presser for that matter, wouldn't damage the book if it were pressed.

With the issues Doc Brown noted, and as Steve said, there is a very limited rate of return on pressing the book pictuted.

Cardboard cover stockith color breaking indents/ticks like this book sre very resiliant to a press.

It looks to be around a 4.5 as it is (just judging from the pics on my cell), if pressed the absolute highest grade you could expect is a 6.0/6.5.Probably a 6.0.

That would be two humidification + full book pressing cycles, with a minimum of 2 hours to set per press...
just to bring a 4.5 book ( a $10 raw book IMO) into a 6.0 slabbed book.A slabbed & Hamill gold label would be worth no more than the cost of grading, pressing and the sig + witness fee....at best.
