@cseale0223 I had something similar happen to me last year. I'd ordered a first print set of Dark Knight Returns. The box arrived with some damage. The guy had put the books in a large box but the books inside weren't protected by any sort of stiff cardboard so when the box took a boot, the packing material itself damaged the books.

I opened a case but the guy insisted he had packaged them well because he'd used a big box. He was also slow to respond so the moment I was able to escalate the case I did and ebay ruled in my favor faster than I'd ever seen.

Rather informing me that the item did not arrive within 3-5 days, you waited nearly a month. I disagree with your claim that the damage lies with me when I packaged & secured the item in a standard envelop with protective wrapping. Per my eBay profile, I do not accept returns. I can assist in filling out a claim via USPS for damaged goods.

It's not your responsibility, as I'm sure you know by now, to fill out a claim with USPS. It's the seller's.

It's also not your responsibility to "notify" a seller within "3-5 days" if the item doesn't show up in that period.

How long after you received it did you write the seller? Same day?

@DocBrown I wrote to him about 5 mins after I opened it. Basically long enough to log into eBay on my phone.

Good. The tracking showing delivery and timing of your e-mails will only help you.

Yeah, when I get stuff like that, I'm usually pretty frosty, and get on it right away. I don't be a dick about it...but I let my annoyance fuel me to not dawdle.

I dont know why sellers try to clutch on to small amounts of money like this. Its over let it go. If someone asked me would you take $12 for a neg on ebay I'd say hell no! I wouldn't take $200 for a neg on ebay!

I had no way of knowing that 9.8 graded copies signed by Adam Hughes weren't what you were looking for. drchaos private msg quote post Address this user
You always should contact the seller first.

Given the chance a good seller will be very quick to make things right.

If you have reached out to the seller and they start to give you any flack, run do not walk to file your claim.

At least you gave them a chance.

A buyer can ask for money but if they try to extort money by specifically threatening negative feedback (if they are not paid) the seller can have the feedback blocked or removed by providing the message as proof of extortion.

yes sorry I didnt mean someone asking me that on ebay yes that would go nowhere it was just a hypothetical question to illustrate how dumb it is to fight a $12 deal when for sure you will lose , and get a neg for a bonus. even if you won and got the neg it wouldnt be worth it to me.

Why even bother with that when you don't have to?

Just curious.

It always looks best if you contact seller first. I had one neg removed because buyer didn't contact me first to try to resolve. When yo go to leave a neg it asks did you contact seller first?

Like RMA said, negs don't really matter because they go away after a year. The DSR's is where you can really make your point with a seller.

I only contact the seller first if I've bought from them before, otherwise it can turn into a drama filled back and forth needlessly.

You are welcome, RMA.

Hi. I've asked you before not to call me "RMA" on these boards. That is my username on another board, not here. My username here is "Doc Brown."

I'm asking you again, nicely, to please refer to me as "Doc Brown" or some derivation thereof.

Please stop making an issue of it. It's not an unreasonable request.

Thank you.

Noting that you created a persona that has a reputation for certain types of activities; I'd have thought that you'd be proud of your legacy.

I've asked you nicely. Regardless of why, you can either honor my request, or not. Either way, it is on record. Want to discuss it? PM me.

I've replied nicely too. I appreciate that you noticed that I can either chose to address you as RMA or not to do so. Doing either or neither doesn't break a forum rule here.

I'll pass on the PM. I'm more of a public kind of guy. That way the context of any exchange is see by everyone. Quotes of conversations that one party in a PM might think are private could suddenly be interjected into a public thread.

As a person who has been in the Logistics field for 30+ years....the receiver wouldn't be able to fill out the damage request/insurance claim for the shipment, that will be a requirement of the shipper.

IMO - it is laziness upon the shipper's behalf for not doing this step, to amicably resolve an failed shipment.

Yes, but antagonism DOES break the rules. And it should go without saying that you can choose to be agreeable, or you can choose to be disagreeable. I have no control over what you do, nor would want to...but the forum administration does.

You may have noticed, but we're interrupting this member's thread. I suppose you may not mind doing that, but this discussion isn't appropriate here. You know where to find me if you'd like to discuss it freely.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sure.

BTW, I'm not attempting to be antagonistic to you. It is apparent that I am not. I don't view you as an adversary. I'm not being rude, calling you names, threatening you, or anything else for that matter. I find it curious that you are attempting to frame the dialog we are having as such.

Technically RMA interrupted the thread when he could have sent a PM to Towmater asking him to stop calling him by his alias RMA on another forum. A rose is still a rose by any other name.

Technically Towmater interrupted the thread when he referred to me as "RMA", when he's been asked in the past not to, and you're keeping it going now.

If we're being technical.

And I'll ask the same of you. My user name here is DocBrown, not "RMA." Please refer to me as that, or some derivation thereof. I'm asking you nicely. Please honor that simple request.

Thank you.

If you refer to a member HERE by a name used somewhere else, how can you truly claim to care about "context"?
A new member or a casual poster might be confused by that.

That's really the most compelling reason to use the correct usernames.

It's confusing to others who aren't aware of these things.

If you care about basic courtesy and wanting others to not be in the dark, you'll just generally use someone's user name where they are.

If, on the other hand, you don't care about others, and you want to pick at people, you'll disregard that.
