1st Cameo vs 1st Full Apperance2369

Collector KingNampa private msg quote post Address this user
Hi all

I got a question for you. What in your opinion is more important to a character's first appearance? Their 1st Cameo or 1st Full Appearance? I've seen differing opinions. Sometimes the 1st Cameo is worth more than the 1st Full appearance and vice versa.

Some Examples:
1st Wolverine
Incredible Hulk #180 (1st Cameo) Vs Incredible Hulk #181 (Full)
In this case 181 almost always sells for more.

But on the flip side...
1st Black Bolt
Fantastic Four #45 (1st Cameo) vs Fantastic Four #46 (Full)
Fantastic Four #45 almost always sells for more.

There are hundreds of more examples either way, Thoughts?

Usually the 1st Full is worth more. But do you all agree that should be the case? Technically Cameo is the 1st appearance.

There's also Venom. First Full was Amaz. Spider-Man #300, but his first technical appearance was last page of Amaz. Spider-an #299

@Sirtoddington Which one sells for more? Which do you think is more important Cameo or full?

The geeks buying this stuff decide which one the monetary gods smile upon.

@DrWatson I'll agree with that sentiment.

"First full appearance" to me simply means "second appearance", or even later.

But the market decides which is worth more, monetarily. To me, the real first appearance is what should matter, but that's just me talking about myself only.

I think it's more of a they have an actual storyline & not just a one panel shot.

I think it's more the cover than anything, especially in the case of Hulk 180/181.

@DrWatson Ya but then why is Fantastic Four 46 worth less? The cover is awesome. 45's cover is boring in my opinion.

@KingNampa I prefer 45 to 46. I have always hated floating head covers.

@DrWatson Ahh so Cameo or Full doesn't really matter, its how cool the cover is. I think I'm getting it now. Hulk #181 does have the better looking cover.

It matters to some people. Once a first appearance is established, it's difficult to break from what's established.

Cover makes a big difference to me. If a person appears in a single frame or two but isnt on the cover, but then has a book featuring them fully cover and all, I want the latter book for my "first appearance" collection.

Does Amazing Spidey 121 count as a floating head cover? I've always liked this one:

Warlock was probably the hardest to figger out first app. They settled on Thor 165 but it could have been any number of others.

@Kav Who is they? The grading companies or general public? Wasn't Warlock first introduced as "Him"?

@Kav Ahh I see its Thor 165 vs Marvel Premier #1?

That's a tough one. In Thor 165 they never refer to him as Adam Warlock. Its like 3 years later they come up with the actual Adam Warlock name for Marvel Premier. I'd argue that it should be Marvel Premier.
