With things winding down, I thought it’d be nice to share some of our favorite CBCS books and memories and books with attached memories.

I jumped aboard CBCS very early. I hadn’t had many books graded before then but even then I had felt burned by CGC and was looking for an alternative.

My first CBCS book was actually meant as a gift for a cousin of mine who is a big fan of the Kingpin. After I got the book back, I couldn’t bring myself to let it go and it became the first Silver Age and thr first CBCS book in my collection and also seems fairly appropriate given the current situation and mood here on the boards

This is one of my all time favorite covers and I was pleasantly shocked that at came back as high as it did.It looked great to me, but I figured I was looking at it through rose colored glasses. And of course, it looks great in the CBCS case (best in the industry).

Some non-comics blast from the past!

So, when CBCS first started they had a devil of a time getting into SDCC and it wasn’t for several years, 2016 (10 years ago!), that they finally made it.

When they did, I thought it would be cool to have a forum meet-up so I posted an invitation to RSVP so we could cave dinner at a local restaurant. That restaurant ended up being the Lazy Dog, a bit away from the convention but we had a decent turnout, including most of the gang from CBCS itself!

Then in 2017, we tried it again at WonderCon and we ended up meeting at the ESPNZone in Downtown Disney

I tried to set up subsequent events but they could never quite get off the ground but these remain probably my favorite CBCS-related memories

I may post some of my favorite PC books later, but more than that, I'm grateful for all of the other collectors that allowed me to witness signatures for their submissions, or trusted me to get signatures on their amazing books, from some legendary creators. I tried to treat every book like it was my own, and had the honor of paying respects to so many icons, on behalf of the fans. There may still be some of those customers on these boards, and to you...eternal thanks.

The other high point related to CBCS, was in 2019 when I was able to sit in on a panel about CBCS grading at the North Texas Comics Book Show, alongside Daryl Hayden and the great Steve Borock.

My favorite memory, is meeting a couple of boardies in person, @ebaymafia and @batman66. Great guys. Of course chatting up the CBCS reps and cons was pretty cool too.

I am (surprisingly) anxious about CBCS going away. I hope most, if not all, boardies went over to CS.

I had never used a forum before CBCS and I really liked the simplicity of it. The list at the front that had every topic listed in order of most current posting. It is super easy to find something. The CS listing has so many sub-categories that it makes it a little tough (at least for me) to navigate. If it were more similar to this forum, I'd feel a lot better.

Anyway, will miss CBCS badly.

When this forum started, people complained that it wasn't like the cgc forum.

Now that the CS forum is here, people are complaining that it isn't like the CBCS forum. However, it is very much like the cgc forum.

Go figure, lol.

@DrWatson - I get you, that's why I added, that it was my first forum, I have to say for a first forum it was/is very easy to navigate. Now, I have to get used to another format. Yikes, I'm old.

I didn’t submit or buy any graded books till CBCS came along but these books stayed in their old CGC Green labels. I’d avoided transferring them to CBCS labels cuz the verification would’ve been too expensive but then CBCS did their big VSP promo a couple of years ago and I was able to finally give them an upgrade

@Wyldchyld Thank you! I love those Turner books you posted!

Not sure why I never made more of an effort to get my Turner signatures verified. Maybe cuz I had gotten most of these signed in person and never intended to sell but still, now CBCS is going away there are fewer options. I guess they can still get verified by Beckett but there will be no grading option anymore

I bought this book off ebay. It didn't have very good pics but I took a chance on it. I was actually the only bidder. I had some concerns about it after I had it in hand, not the least of which was that it just looked too good. So I sent it in for grading. I was very pleasantly surprised when I saw the grade. I ended up selling it to cover another purchase and I greatly regret that.

My intro to the site saved my life (only partially hyberbole, but that's a long story) and brought me some great times and great reading, met some very awesome people and a couple not so awesome LOL and helped me go on a trip to Japan ...

I hope CS has the same spirit and life and hope to be there enjoying all of you crazy people many years to come!

I tried to post pics of my first grading, Incredible Hulk #181 but the pic is no longer available here, but you all know what it looks like

Have I told you about the time I dropped off 3,000 comics at SDCC? Scifinator private msg quote post Address this user
This was my first submission, and a test case at that. Many of you know my back story on this so I will be brief. Back in 1982, Michael Golden autographed this comic for me, shortly after I bought it at publication, at my LCS. A few decades later, I was going through my comics and had a mishap which led to this near pristine come being bent in half across the to quarter of the comic. from the side, it looked like a hockey stick. I was devastated as it was personally autographed for me 36 years later, kablooie.

So in 2018 I did a lot of research and sent this in to CBCS at the beginning of 2019. It was a test, to be sure, as I had had another earlier misfortunate event that destroyed my first of only a couple speculative publication time acquisitions, again from the early 80's. I wanted to protect and encase all of my comics, so this was my chosen path. I had a few comics that were in CGC encasements and always felt that I was there to serve them. Spoke with Steve Borock, and he gave me a completely different sense and like our interaction, so I chose CBCS.

Anyway, the label speaks for itself....or does it??? Isn't that a new label, not the one from 2019 you ask? Why yes it is. Steve (Mr. Pancakes) Ricketts was the actual presser who brought this back to its current condition. Still being impressed and thankful for his craft, I asked him if he would do me the honor of signing my encasement if I sent for a re-holder. He did not sign the encasement, he actually signed and remarked the label!!! How awesome is that guy?
