| You need about $4M, an extra 40-50 hours a week, and about 5 years to get to a point where the company supports itself and you don’t have to keep funding it. Also, you have to become a plastics expert, have coding understanding to create a web site from scratch, learn about injection molding, make deals with shipping and insurance companies, and deal with a lot of stress and worry. Other than that, it’s pretty simple. | ||

Quote:Originally Posted by DrWatson Angelo, I'm with Doc on this one. While my interest in the hobby has gone from high to low and back again, I've found that I enjoy just sitting down to read some comics again. I stopped giving a shit about making money off of it. Now, I like picking up a random miniseries or some run and reading it, enjoying it, and then talking about it. My collecting style has gone from Punisher and X-Men to "keys" to classic storylines for all sorts of characters/titles, to now being whatever the hell I find somewhat interesting. Now my main concern is figuring out what to do with this shit when I die (I'm 42 and in fairly decent health so not planning to go yet). I don't have kids and have zero desire to sire offspring. No one in my family cares about it, and any broad I date thinks it's a "neat hobby" but also has no clue how to handle it. I could leave the collection to @esaravo but he would probably be like "why the hell are you giving me my books back?" Most likely I'll just take it all to the Bookery and let Tim give me a fair enough price to restock his back wall and back issue bins. Just a rambling thought from me. Mike |

I'd like to say I still turned out alright, but that would be a lie.

Quote:Originally Posted by flanders I did bring the point up for a chuckle but also because a buddy of mine did in fact inform me that he named me in his will or some other legal document as someone to advise his family on what to do with the collection if he were to pass. I help them sell or donate or whatever, and in return I get a few books. It was the first time I've ever been tasked for something like that. |

| @Studley_Dudley and @flanders - You guys made me laugh! Don’t both of you youngsters realize that I will turn 66 next week? But seriously, I have thought about getting rid of my collection off and on for the last twenty years. I do need to drastically reduce the number of books in my collection - those heavy long boxes are a pain to deal with. I have significantly cut down on my purchases over the last several years, and have probably given away more books than I’ve bought during that time period. But I still like hunting for bargains in the wild, would like to finish off another run or two, and I’d like to pick up some cool books I have never owned (or regret getting rid of). And I still enjoy reading an actual comic every now and then. So if you still enjoy comics, why stop doing what you like? | ||

| While we are all paying our respects... I was one of the early signature facilitators going back to the start of CBCS in 2014. My business was the first that Stan Lee's people allowed to witness as CBCS, because they already knew us from other shows. We did partner and co-brand with CBCS on encasing signed 8x10 photos, and that was a cool experience while it lasted. I'm in the Dallas area, so when CBCS moved here, it did make things simple for me to drop off and pick up and I made friends with the owner and so many people in the office. Along the way I met most of my childhood heroes that created the comics I loved as a kid, and it all drew me back into collecting for myself again. I graded a LOT for customers and quite a bit for myself. I finally walked away from being a facilitator by 2023 to focus on other parts of my business, but I continued avidly hunting, grading and selling so I could refine my personal collection. In the last 5yrs I have upgraded and consolidated my slab collection down from 10 short boxes to 5, mostly CBCS, and they are all quality books now, which I'm quite proud of. A number of them are books from my original childhood collection from the 80s. Much of that is sig books, which will probably always remain CBCS. I have sentimental attachment to quite a few of those experiences and meeting those legendary silver and bronze age creators. I'll also forever be grateful to all of the fans, collectors and community I became close with during that time. I obviously won't be grading much now, prob rarely. Not looking forward to using one of the others, so the grading phase of my collecting is def down-shifting from here on out. I don't intend to fully liquidate or stop collecting, but it definitely won't be the same. I considered CBCS a partner and though I knew things were not going well since we came back from COVID era, CBCS was a piece of my life for almost 12 yrs and it's still bitter to see it all wind down. Having said that, I'm thankful that CBCS existed and helped give me the opportunity to have so many great experiences that I'll never forget. Maybe I've met some of you, maybe not, but I wish you all the best in your journey. And don't lose the love and appreciation for those funny books. |

| It's great to hear from everybody and I whole heartedly agree with @DrWatson Our collection habits may change but we are all still here..or rather at CS! At 52 I know many of you are of a similar vintage. Grading didn't exist when I developed my love of comics, if it evolves and changes so be it. I mainly graded for my PC but as many of you have mentioned the volume and frequency and type of books I've bought ebbs and flows and I too NEED to downsize what I have on hand. Grading helped move a few and I'm sure I'll come back to grading but also I'm sure I can find ways to sell raw (maybe I need to call Doug Suplia [just to keep it Canadian!!] or someone to off the whole lot at once!!) |

| Ha!! found the last book I want to send in. I have a few I suspect have colour touch or other and would still like for my PC but if I ever grade I don't want purple or green...will send in for CBCS Blue and a real grade rather than a fantasy green grade etc.! Now to figure out which issues to send and get in the mail! |
