They were during that cover contest and I can't be phuvked thinking up a new original idea, so anyone with high votes always got my high votes, there were a few times I would of won if not for my cunning plan...

Sad to see CBCS go, especially the forum. I signed up on collector syndicate today, so I look forward to seeing most of you there. I see that they have a Harvey thread, so I have a feeling that things are going to work out fine (for me, anyway)🙂.

So sad...I never really post on any other forums, really my only social media - this place was always welcoming.

LOVED CBCS product and grading - somehow PGX survives??!!!

Will have to see what the future holds....might be forced to give PSA a try?

We need trips to Japan documented on CS now!

Not much of a website but he makes nice cases. You can even get different colored screws for the corners.

I see he's making cases for 11x17 art too.

@DrWatson do it again?

Since CBCS is going away, why not create ANOTHER new grading company?

Or am I naïve in my understanding of how difficult and how much work it is to do so?

The end of an era.

Its really sad to see CBCS close and everything else along with it.

I've been on this site....almost daily for the past decade. Learned so much about the hobby here...made friends...made combatants....bought, sold, traded. Lots of memories and great experiences. This forum was an important part of what made collecting fun.

It feels like the closing of CBCS and this forum has put a damper on collecting.

Maybe its my time to end the collecting....cash out and move on to other interests....we'll see.

I wish you all health and happiness in all your endeavors....the end of an era indeed....maybe its time to start a new one.

Cheers all! 🍻

I'm bummed as well, but you know. I've decided that I'm not going to let a few corporate turds ruin my punch bowl. Your friends aren't gone, they've just changed their address. Collecting is an evolutionary process. It changes. Waxes and wanes. I'll adapt my collecting style. It's happened before. I'm sure it will happen again. Do what you feel is necessary, but know that you would be missed.

I can’t imagine the years of time and huge investment it takes just to develop a slab and then do all the competitive research, patent searches, etc. It has to be hugely expensive. And then you have to build market acceptance and trust. I don’t want to say insurmountable, but it would be very, very difficult.

For last minute submissions, is it worth it to pay for Express grading at this point? How long until the turd drops?

You need about $4M, an extra 40-50 hours a week, and about 5 years to get to a point where the company supports itself and you don’t have to keep funding it. Also, you have to become a plastics expert, have coding understanding to create a web site from scratch, learn about injection molding, make deals with shipping and insurance companies, and deal with a lot of stress and worry. Other than that, it’s pretty simple.

Angelo,

I'm with Doc on this one. While my interest in the hobby has gone from high to low and back again, I've found that I enjoy just sitting down to read some comics again. I stopped giving a shit about making money off of it. Now, I like picking up a random miniseries or some run and reading it, enjoying it, and then talking about it. My collecting style has gone from Punisher and X-Men to "keys" to classic storylines for all sorts of characters/titles, to now being whatever the hell I find somewhat interesting.

Now my main concern is figuring out what to do with this shit when I die (I'm 42 and in fairly decent health so not planning to go yet). I don't have kids and have zero desire to sire offspring. No one in my family cares about it, and any broad I date thinks it's a "neat hobby" but also has no clue how to handle it. I could leave the collection to @esaravo but he would probably be like "why the hell are you giving me my books back?" Most likely I'll just take it all to the Bookery and let Tim give me a fair enough price to restock his back wall and back issue bins.

Just a rambling thought from me.

Mike
