LOVED CBCS product and grading - somehow PGX survives??!!! Will have to see what the future holds....might be forced to give PSA a try? |

| Awe man..just realized CBCS pressing was one of only 4 that I've tried and 1 of only 2 that I trust. It was so great having everything integrated. Press, Grade and if I so chose have MCS pick up the books direct from CBCS to sell - was so easy. Might have to see about one or two last submissions? |

Quote:Originally Posted by KatKomics They say cockroaches will survive WWIII and nuclear winter.... And the asteroid wiped out the dinosaurs but some small and very small creatures managed to ride it out. So I guess small is sometimes an advantage. Does anyone recall that last summer there were widely covered rumors that GameStop was looking at purchasing PSA? GameStop raised 1.75 billion with private offering of convertible equity notes. They said they wanted to use the $$ for aquations. GameStop in May 2025 said they had taken in over one million cards for PSA grading in just the first year of doing so. They say collectibles have really turned their business around. And now GameStop is rolling out taking in comics for PSA grading... So IDK...maybe the grading landscape isn't done changing. It's a pity for sure.... I'll miss the CBCS ART label. PSA isn't even offering prescreening for grades yet. The only thing stands out as a plus is their signature verification. I've mocked up a few PSA submissions with signatures to be verified and the price was the same for one autograph or multiple autographs. |

| So sad to hear this. I am the original founder of CBCS. I cold called Steve Borock in 2012 and convinced him to come on board with me to create a new grading company. I made so many friends. In 2017 I decided to sell to Becket to bring this company to the next level. The plan was to grow and to open grading in other countries. I have no inside information of anything after around 2020. I was happy to see the company sold to PSA. I thought this would mean that a company that I created and that the whole world of comic collecting knew existed would go on forever. It was a fun ride. I wish everyone who worked at CBCS and everyone who trusted CBCS the best. | ||

I guess my questions is. Who is the brainchild at PSA that made this decision and did they assume that CBCS people would just filter over to PSA as the #2 option behind CGC? Personally, I love the CBCS product and I have strong feelings about using a company that is responsible for the removal of a product that I really enjoyed and at the same time removing competition from the marketplace. I have explored PSA in the past when they opened to see what was new, but they force me to use the Canadian location based on my geographical location, and they only offer card grading on submissions at that location... So whenever PSA decides to pack it in on the comic side, we're left with CGC....who becomes the Taco Bell of the franchise wars. |

| This sucks. CBCS was by far the best option for grading. Now I have to choose between CGC (more expensive, Newton rings, the worst case in the industry that may also bend and damage my comics, constant price increases every year) and PSA (even more expensive, ugly label, slowest and worst customer service in my one experience at least, bulky cases with Newton rings). Really just trying to pick the best of the worst at this point. Unsure which one I'll move to. |

| I wish I could say that I am sorry to see CBCS go but my experiences with them when they had their massive slowdown keeps me from doing such. Because the slowdown affected dealers so harshly, it has literally taken me until this year to get Walkin' Willie's Comix cash flow positive again after that 2021-2022 debacle. Yeah, I had THAT many books - over 2,000 - submitted to CBCS that took well over a year to get graded. Let this be a cautionary tale for PSA, PGX and any other third party grader - get your act together and be ready in case your company has to grow fast all of the sudden. I hope the CBCS employees land somewhere good for them whether it is with Beckett or somewhere else. The other downer to all of this is that I really liked a lot of the commenters on here - learned a lot over the years. Onward and upward... |
