Me too. I used to listen to Gregg when he was "Beezer" on Z Rock even before that. I'm hoping Johnny is just riding out a noncompete and will come back in some form.

I wish I could say that I am sorry to see CBCS go but my experiences with them when they had their massive slowdown keeps me from doing such. Because the slowdown affected dealers so harshly, it has literally taken me until this year to get Walkin' Willie's Comix cash flow positive again after that 2021-2022 debacle. Yeah, I had THAT many books - over 2,000 - submitted to CBCS that took well over a year to get graded. Let this be a cautionary tale for PSA, PGX and any other third party grader - get your act together and be ready in case your company has to grow fast all of the sudden. I hope the CBCS employees land somewhere good for them whether it is with Beckett or somewhere else. The other downer to all of this is that I really liked a lot of the commenters on here - learned a lot over the years.

Onward and upward...

I've been submitting to CGC for the last three years or so since I left CBCS and have not gotten a Newton Ring in any of them - and I submit a lot of books.

Unfortunately I tried CGC out again a year or so ago and I got a few bananas...no way those books are the grades on the cases when I can see the crinkles etc.
I would have taken newton rings over what I got back...kind of why I'm hesitant to give them a go again.

Sounds like submissions still open till April 17 - going to send in a small 6-12 books mostly for my personal collection while I still can (and if I can find all I want to send it - thought I knew where 1 book was and it wasn't!!!)

I'm with you! I'm not sure what to do now. I can't send in my books to CGC and "hope" they don't get damaged. I don't like psa's holder or label. This sucks.

@sportshort I agree PSA should keep CBCS and get rid of PSA grading.

Maybe you'll get lucky and get the holy grail of the last comic ever encapsulatrd in a Cbcs slab.

I'm going to put together at least one more submission before the end. I'll go PSA after this, at least for a while. Going to miss the CBCS cases and pressing, for sure. Going to miss the service more.

CGC is cheeks for people who like to not have their property damaged. After they funked my property up with their Frankenslabs and then seeing what their new banana hammock slabs have done to people's books, they can pound salt. I'll send a few books to CBCS to finish out my run with them. Afterwards, I'll just chill for a bit and it isn't like I've submitted a lot of stuff lately. I'll see how PSA shakes out and submit a couple books to them at some point. Maybe even try a few moderns to PGX.

I hate hearing this news. I figured when PSA acquired Beckett this might happen but was hoping that they would have kept CBCS or at least waited a few years until PSA took off. I still dont like the look of the PSA cases, and like most people are saying I have had problems with CGC. But I have a feeling that PSA wont be as successful as CBCS. Hope I am wrong. I guess the upside is that it will save me some money.

You know what's a shame in all this? The market was finally showing CBCS some respect. The value vs CGC was gaining parity. I know several people that were fed up with CGC and we talking about using CBCS.

I posed this question to Google Gemini:

But does it really make sense for Collectors to drop CBCS when they have a rabid fanbase and PSA's slabs and grading have proven unfavorable?

Its response was typical of the financial aspect of the change.

Collectors spent the last two years heavily investing in the launch and expansion of PSA's own comic grading division. When they bought Beckett (and by extension, CBCS) in December 2025, they suddenly owned two competing comic grading services. Continuing to fund CBCS meant paying for duplicate staff, warehouses, and marketing, all to cannibalize their own PSA submissions.

By shutting down CBCS, Collectors is forcing that loyal fanbase to make a choice: either swallow their pride and cross over to PSA, or go to CGC.

I then suggested that many of the loyal CBCS fanbase will not switch and that I'm going to change the way I collect by going back to keeping my books raw. It's response:

Here is why your shift to a purely raw collection is likely going to be a growing trend in the hobby:

The Slab Aesthetic Matters: Comic collectors are highly visual. The cover art is the primary draw. Many collectors feel that PSA's current comic slabs are bulky, the inner wells allow for too much movement, and the labels detract from the book's presentation. If the slab doesn't enhance the display, its value drops significantly.

The Cost-to-Benefit Ratio: Grading has become expensive and time-consuming. If the resulting product doesn't bring you joy or provide a universally agreed-upon boost in liquidity, the ROI of grading vanishes.

A Return to the Roots: Moving away from the "graded-at-all-costs" mentality brings the hobby back to appreciating the books as tangible pieces of art and history, rather than just commodified financial assets locked in plastic.

Well that's my last rant on this forum. It's been fun being here. Maybe we can have a beer or two in Charlotte and talk about the good old days at CBCS.

@Belarak I have that same feeling about keeping my books raw now. I dont want to go to CGC or PSA until they fix their slabs, but I recently got some of the comic capsules and like them. I think I will use those for books I want graded instead of sending them in. Hopefully some other companies will start making sturdy plastic cases people can put their raw books in.

@Gamecube2482 I have several of the Comic Capsules. They're great and he even offers a veteran discount. Another case I really like are the Gator Guards. When I went to the Memphis Comic Expo in 2022 he was selling this case. It's difficult to see it in the photo so I took the top off and captured it outdoors. He even made me a custom one for my Mandalorian #1 with the Mythosaur engraved on the top.
