Older (CGC) slab yellowing22158

If you want to bludgeon someone with a comic, PSA should be your first choice. James42 private msg quote post Address this user
I was organizing some books earlier, and noticed that a couple CGC slabs I had graded about 15 years ago had some yellowing in the plastic. I'm not 100 percent certain, but it looks like the inner well is what is yellowed. How concerned do I need to be with this? Is it common? Both are low census count books, and if I do need to have them reslabbed they will go to CBCS, but if it's just cosmetic and unlikely to hurt the books I will leave them alone.

It's Barex. It yellows. That why the cgc slabs had a blue tint, to help hide it.

I don't know what effect it has on the book.

This was the biggest reason the cgc recommended getting books reholdered every seven years.

I don't believe this....and I know you don't care that I don't believe this. GAC private msg quote post Address this user
Q: Does aged Barex in older CGC slabs have a negative impact on the comic inside?

I would have them transferred to a CBCS slab quickly.

Good luck with the grades.

Edit... And after 15 years, definitely press (and clean if necessary) before having them placed in crystal transparency.

No regrets.

I'd like to say I still turned out alright, but that would be a lie. flanders private msg quote post Address this user
Hopefully they'll have a promotion soon, all my old cgc slabs are vintage and I'm too cheap to pay that fee plus pressing in hopes of a grade bump.

I know what you mean, Bro!

But when transferring CGC to CBCS, I was thinking more along the lines of hopefully maintaining a grade, than a grade bump.

Yea, that's the worst part, especially since cgc is more lienent on non modern age books. I'm paying to lose money.

I can personally attest that is not always true.
