Is Jim Lee worth these prices?22121

Collector Terk13 private msg quote post Address this user
@James42 You are probably right. I'm going off memory but I saw Adam Hughes do this around 15 years ago at C2E2. He was charging a pretty high price and not doing them onsite. They were going to have to be sent to you. For some reason I was thinking it was around $1200 but maybe not. The lady that was with him said he will do it and it will be colored and ready to go not just a quick sketch. There were maybe a dozen people on the list. She said he didn't want to take up the weekend doing sketches and that he was there to sign books which he was doing for free.

Sadly, yes, it is where the market is with the demand and his artwork. Anything less expensive and it'd be flooded with requests, or bombed out by dealers and vendors before fans ever get a chance. Granted, there are ways to manage that, and other artists have developed different processes for handling these kinds of things. That being said, I did do the Jim Lee signing event at Baltimore Comic Con last year and it was great. $150 got me 3 signatures, a signed print, a meeting and a photo with him. The line took forever, but he was a lot of fun to speak with and very engaging with everyone. I'd do that again for sure, but I'm certainly not the target market for his sketch prices at the moment.

There was a day; and not terribly long ago (as in eons), when one could get a detailed adam Hughes sketch for $60. And one could get a reasonable jim lee sketch for free.
I know this because I experienced both.

Fans Flipping artwork; and the artists realizing that others are profiting over their goodwill to the "fans" changed everything.
Now their art is seen like everything else and handled like everything else - a commodity with a fair market value.

And unfortunately for most of us, fmv for Lee art is not something we can just go out and get willy nilly

If you want to bludgeon someone with a comic, PSA should be your first choice. James42 private msg quote post Address this user
@Nuffsaid111 My wife's very first con sketch was $20.

@SpiderTim Better check again. The Jim Lee Experience went up to $200. I was going to sign up for it at $150, but I don't know if it's worth it to me to pay $200 for three signatures. I have several "witnessed" signatures, Claremont, Quesada and Roy Thomas that cost me $50. I can't see spending more than $65 for Jim Lee's autograph unwitnessed.

@Belarak yeah I just saw this as well… NYCC was what… 2 months ago and the price has already increased that much, for essentially the same “experience”. I’ll be attending megacon Orlando for my first year in 2026, I did plan on purchasing the Jim Lee experience and still might, but seeing the prices continue to climb is upsetting.

Definitely will me purchasing that Frank miller experience! I don’t think $170 for his “bundle” is bad. Jim’s isn’t either but I felt like the $150 at NYCC was a fair price…although I did end up passing on it .

How do I know this? Because I've done it myself. lawguy1977 private msg quote post Address this user
I'm on the west coast, but we're doing spring break in Orlando, so I'll be attending on the Saturday for the convention. My kid (and me, of course) are giant LOTR fans, and all 4 Hobbit actors are there doing a panel and signing, so I got him the package to have all 4 sign 1 item. He's beyond excited.

And yes, I did snag a Jim Lee package for myself, but I got it at the $150 price. $200 doesn't make sense to me when that's more than the cost for 3 signatures. I don't really care about the print, I'm doing it to complete my 9.8 Hush run.

@MattSolar Last week when I looked at the Jim Lee Experience it was $150. They just raised it to $200. I don't know if Jim Lee or Megacon did it. I think it's bull **** to advertise the price at $150 and then raise it to $200. They also raised the single auto price to $80. I think it was $60.

I already bought my tickets but if CBCS isn't there again this year, I am done with Orlando. It's convenient and easy for me to attend but I can attend Baltimore just as easily. Probably a better show.

Yup. the Guy raised his prices to $200.

I wasnt going to buy them at $150, let alone $200.

I'll support others.

@Belarak I believe CBCS will be there. It’s listed somewhere on the megacon site. I saw something along the lines of “CGC/CBCS verification at extra cost@ implying that they will be there.

Have you dealt with CBCS at all convention before. I have yet to even send in my first submission…waiting on extra funds and a Xmas gift card. So I’m not too firmiliar with the process.

Is it similar to CGC, can you do insite grading and submissions? And can you get witnessed signatures?
