I think this is about a 9.0 Superman 1....highest graded Supes 1....this should break the $5.3M sale.

I think this is more of a "No, I'm not having an affair with my secretary." type of situation.

I Promise (collection) <cough, cough>

I know of one Golden age collection called a city name where it originally came from another city over 2 hours away...

So stories behind collections now days are great yarns to be told around a fire with beers in the hand...

So stories take with a grain of salt, preferably a lot of grains to sprinkle over a pretzel to accompany the beers 🍻

From GoCollect's article on the Super-find, the quote's about a previous Superman 1 graded and sold.

GoCollect - Newly Discovered Superman 1

"The current runner-up most valuable issue is a Superman No. 1 that sold for $5.3 million in a 2022 private sale. CGC graded that issue at 8.0, but the following year CGC raised the grade to 8.5, rendering it even more valuable."

Oh CGC

That's like my Rocky Horror comic from Caliber comics
Bought at 9.2 with Meatloaf signature
Sent in for Tim Curry; cracked, no press, came back 9.4
Then sent in for Susan Sarandon, cracked, no press, came back 9.6

I'm not complaining. Mo money, mo money, mo money.
But gosh what a joke/scam

Has anybody even looked at the CGC grader’s notes for that (now) 8.5 Edgar Church Superman #1? The notes say that it is a restored copy with “lite” color touch on the front cover. But I guess that small amounts of CT are allowed in GA books by CGC so they can still get Blue Labels (without any restoration listed on the label). No restoration is listed on the notes for the new 9.0 copy.

The cgc, at inception, decided to forgive the slight restoration on the Church books, and possibly other GA books, because they were afraid that the owners/dealers of the books would not submit them for grading.

So, I guess one can take their pick; a slightly restored blue label 8.5 Church copy of Superman #1 or an overgraded 9.0 Superman #1 with a more than likely bullshit back story that stokes the fires of nostalgia.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great book. But I don't understand why this one went for so much... Isn't Superman #1 far more common than Action 1? And there are only 2 copies of that graded 9.0. Was this even the first print of Superman 1? (I know lots of collectors consider all of the 1939 copies to be basically the same, but not all.)
