The 2025 Baltimore Comic Convention is coming up this weekend. Anyone else going? Excited for any particular guests?

Baltimore Comic Con 2025

I'll be attending this Friday and Sunday, unfortunately missing Saturday for a family event so maybe not unfortunately. Looking forward to all of the guests and signature opportunities, especially Alan Davis, whom I've yet to meet and I'm excited to see at a US convention. A number of others, I missed Claremont and Simonson last year because of the long lines and my past opportunities to get some books signed before already, but I'm hoping to reach them as well.

I'll be there all weekend, or until I've spent all my money. I also skipped the Simonsons last year because of lines so I'm hoping to catch them this time. Excited for Adam Kubert as well.

I had no way of knowing that 9.8 graded copies signed by Adam Hughes weren't what you were looking for. drchaos private msg quote post Address this user
I am still recovering from NYCC but plan to go for at least one day.

Nice! I’ve been attending since 2001, and have made most of but not all of the shows over the years. I used to have sketchbooks of artists’ sketches from the earlier years there that have sadly been lost to the sands of time (or an opportunistic old friend, unfortunately).

Update for anyone as of this morning, a list of the cancelled guests - I can never seem to get to Ennis.

If I happen to see Marc Nathan, there will be an unpleasant conversation I have with him with shutting out CBCS. Still pissed about it and I wrote him several times and got radio silence.

He's always come across as a fair guy to me. He keeps the dealers off artist line for instance until the show opens. But to shut out CBCS and have CGC as exclusive is the start of jumping the shark. And I'm not happy about it and he will know it... for whatever that is worth ... which is probably nothing to him

Disappointed that Jae Lee canceled considering all of his exclusives I bought from DC at NYCC.

Also would have been nice to have Ennis the Boys books signed by Karl Urban.

It’s a shame, because Marc has always been very nice and genuinely all about the comic book community. It’s one of the main reasons Baltimore’s been considered one of the best primarily comic book-focused conventions in the country. Disappointed nonetheless, and I hope it’s reconsidered for future dates.

Looks like most of today will be waiting for Claremont and Kubert.

@xkonk Looks about right. Yesterday they had just 1 combined line for Claremont, Alan Davis, and Adam Kubert, and it was slightly longer than this line right after opening. A volunteer came by asking if anyone was waiting for Alan Davis only, so I took the chance to get out of the line (I've met Claremont twice before already) and get a sketch and some sigs from Davis instead. I got the chance to meet just about every creator I was looking forward to yesterday, and may consider using Sunday to deal with the Simonson and Claremont lines before shopping for comics.

@CapCityComics it was a joint line today until Kubert took a break. I was in line for 5 hours and was in time for Kubert to come back. He was much faster.

@xkonk That's nuts. I spent a lot of time in that corner area while Alan Davis was sketching my piece, and they could easily run 3 separate lines going in opposite directions from one another there. Plenty of space along that wall for Davis, the direction towards the gaming area for Kubert, and then back towards the dining area as it is already for Claremont. I'm looking to chance it tomorrow to see if I can get Claremont, but I'm not going to wait 5 hours.

Just back from Baltimore.
I always always always go for the artists and sketches/commissions. I can get comics anywhere I figure.
These pieces fill big holes in my classic artist needs (Charles Vess, Jose Luis Garcia Lopez, and Kevin Nowlan) and were quite cheap as I went right to them the second the doors opened Friday.
Was lucky to get Alan Davis several years ago when sketch lines weren't to infinity and beyond.

The J.L. Garcia Lopez is actually a prelim to the cover of Detective comics 1089
The Vess Peter Pan was "leftover" from 2014 he pulled out of his storage and bought it immediately.

Here are my goodies

Signatures and a print from Josh Middleton. I didn't know he lives in Japan, was glad to see him.

A little book of sketches and a Prof X from Bob McLeod

Adam Kubert sigs.

This lady and her sister were next to me in line for the five hours it took to get up to Chris Claremont. She was probably the nicest person I've met at a con and made the ordeal tolerable. Not pictured, the Claremont sigs because I got them on the first page.

A Magik sketch by Adriana Melo

Not pictured, some other odds and ends.

Five hours for Claremont, ouch.

I remember two years ago at emerald City and just walked up to Claremont with no line and he was eating a muffin and I said I'd like a signature on my wolverine 1 but I'll wait until you finished eating and he said that's okay and put down the muffin and signed it.

Funny how lines are long at one convention and non existing at another.

Claremont use to sign for free. Then he charged $5 a book. I don’t know what he charges now a days.

@southerncross I saw him in Philly some years ago and it was more like that. He didn't really take any breaks though. He went to the bathroom once and inhaled a burger at the table. No complaints about Chris, it should have been better organized.

@Zombie_Head He was $15 with a bump if witnessed for grading. Adam Kubert was $10, Josh Middleton was $10 but with bumps for grading or NYX 3, and that's all I recall right now. I don't mind the charges, it's basically their pension.

Yep Yep... I remember that time.
I finished Claremont signatures long long ago on my "Value" books and Marvel Masterworks when he was free. This was during the time that Dave Cockrum was alive (and free as well) and got both individuals relatively easily.
Claremont's lines now (as I witnessed at NYCC and Baltimore) are just dreadful.
I can't even imagine if Dave Cockrum was alive what his lines would look like.

Alright, quick recap for the weekend. I went Friday, which was great! Less crowded, and it appeared most of the creators were readily available at their tables, which isn't always the case on the first/preview days of some cons. Beelined it to the Alan Davis line, which was actually 1 line for Claremont, Davis, and Kubert. Kind of a mess, and a long wait. After 10 minutes a rep came down the line asking if anyone was ready for Alan Davis sketches - I figured I've seen Claremont twice before already and could forego this line for now. Davis was awesome, dryly funny, and generous with his time for fans looking for signatures despite sketches-only timeframe.

After that, I went after numerous other creators and decided not to venture back into the Claremont line (2+ hours for most that day, 3+ hours Saturday).

Art Adams, Al Milgrom, Joshua Middleton, and Lee Weeks (with a remarque cameo by Tom King)

Denys Cowan, Kaare Andrews, and JG Jones

Brian Stelfreeze and Mike Grell

Charles Vess and Mark Buckingham

Super excited to see Jose Luis Garcia Lopez again this year. The DC Comics Style Guide was delayed beyond last year's con, so I was happy to bring this hefty book along this year for him to sign. It was a pleasure to speak with him at length about his classic stylings, and he greatly appreciated conversing in Spanish.

Alex Maleev arrived late Friday, which allowed me to visit the other creators and have the books above signed before going to see him. He generously signed extra books outside of the 10 I paid for because he was happy to see so many of the older Daredevil covers. I already wanted to purchase some original art from him, and thankfully it was Friday so my budget hadn't exploded yet.

I missed Saturday, which apparently was a dodged bullet after hearing about the clusterf*@% conjoining of the Baltimore Marathon and protests along the con route. Sunday was a busy day, and I got in early enough right before opening to want to chance the Claremont and Simonsons lines. After only a 20 minute wait, I asked Claremont a question that led to a 6 minute conversation that was illuminating and funny for everyone around. Totally explains the long line waits for him!

Chris Claremont (with another Alan Davis sig), Walt Simonson, Louise Simonson

Mark Waid was only available for an hour in the early afternoon, and I got in early before the line blew up and took over the aisles. After hearing about the other guests I visited, he immediately asked how long Claremont spoke.

Dave Johnson and Mark Waid

Made my way to see Klaus Janson, a childhood favorite of mine. I brought a lot of books, and saw that they had the gallery edition of The Dark Knight Returns at his table for less money than purchasing it online. He can talk art and technique for ages, and was very gracious with his time. One of the highlights of the weekend for sure.

I only purchased comics towards the end of the day, and only from 1 dealer that I always try to shop whenever I see them. One of the few pictures I actually don't have, but picked up the classic Steranko X-Men 50 6.0 for $200. Baltimore Comic Con is always one of the best cons in the country, and this year did not disappoint. Would have loved to do a meetup of fellow board members, but something to look forward to next year!

@CapCityComics Interesting Nightcrawler sketch and how the facial structure is similar to this Joker I got way way way back when Alan Davis was at Baltimore comicon with virtually no lines (like 2013/2014 timeframe).
