@Nearmint67 Good to read you too, brother! Life has taken a few strange turns for me over the last several months. Back in March my mother in law had a fall and fractured her hip. After the surgery the hospital wanted to send her to a facility, which she vehemently did not want. I agreed to move in with her for a few weeks and help her while she rehabbed at home. At that point I knew she had been having some memory issues. I had been making sure her bills got paid, etc. for at least a few months prior to that. Once I moved in I quickly saw how bad it really was. She was waking up in the middle of the night not knowing where she was. Sometimes she didn’t know who I was (I have been married to her daughter for over 30 years). When it got really scary I called her primary doctor and told him her symptoms. He told me to take her to the emergency room. She spent ten days in the hospital where they ran every kind of test you can think of and couldn’t come up with a diagnosis. After that I spent a couple months taking her around to various specialists. Eventually they concluded that the problems were likely caused by an excessive amount of fluid in the cranial cavity. There is a surgery where they put a shunt in the brain and drain off the excess fluid. The only thing was that by the time they figured out the problem she had become too weak to survive brain surgery. I ended up staying with her until she passed away in September. It was quite a ride but I am glad that I was able to be there for her and at least keep her in her own home until she passed away. Also glad to be getting back to my own life again and doing the things I used to do, like hanging out with you guys. |

| @michaelekrupp Sorry to hear about your MIL. RIP. My MIL is in recovery from a fall and subsequent broken hip, too. She was released from the senior rehab earlier, so my wife and I tandems as being her spotter when she takes walks around the neighborhood. She is fiercely independent so luckily her memory is still good but her active window is pretty small so I try to drive her around when she needs it, especially for PT and grocery runs. Glad you are back. Keep on reclaiming what you enjoy doing. With everything else going on, self-care is important! Best regards!! |

| Thanks @jake. One thing I have learned from this is to appreciate one’s folks while they are still here (in laws included!). We don’t get to have them around forever. It sounds like you are a good son-in-law and your MIL and your wife are lucky to have you on the team! |
