I have a comic that is signed and has a sketch on front. The Creator , Chance priest, is the one who signed and sketched. Can he authenticate it through Facebook or Instagram? He can also be reached by phone. Would that be good enough to have it graded with authentication? |

I do apologize if it's an ignorant question. I've never sent in anything to be graded and I think I really like this company for pricing and quality.

Because you have the book and it’s not a direct artist to CBCS submission, No. It must pass Beckett authentication process.

Quote:Originally Posted by multi007 I don’t think this answer is clear. The answer is a signature and sketch can only be “authenticated” by a CBCS authorized witness (who is not the artist). That witness (1) needs to be present when that signature/remark occurs, and (2) the book cannot leave the witnesses presence until it’s officially turned over CBCS with all the proper documentation/paperwowk. Breaking that chain of possession/control by the authorized witness invalidates the authentication process. There is a Signature Verification program, which involves comparing the signature of a book to historical samples on file to gage whether it is believe to be authentic…however I believe that this only applies to signatures and not any sketch art or remarks. Those would be graded separately, potentially as defects, I believe. Sort of Like if I drew on a cover that was signed by an artist. The signature could be verified, but they would consider my doodling a defect. Since remarks are considered unique to the book, they could not tell whether I doodled or the artist doodled. |

Like @multi007 referred to, there is (or was) a process for having an artist directly verify that they signed/sketched a book. But you have to get a form from CBCS that the artist fills out and then the artist sends the form and book directly to CBCS. They aren't chatting with people over the phone.

CBCS doesn't verify sketches. Only signatures. Unsigned art will/can get a blue art label.

You need to email Cody Lockwood at clockwood@cbcscomics.com and ask him. The easiest process might be to return the sketch to the artist and have him submit the paperwork and book to CBCS. However, Cody will know what exactly to do. |
