I don't blame you....personally, I love those old CGC cases, so keeping the book in those cases is good.

Many people say CGC graded harder back then....with your observation that a Press will help + "easier" grading (although CBCS grades tough), maybe you'd get a significant grade bump.

It has some tanning, so that makes me leary of sending it to CBCS. I remember what happened the last time I sent them a book with tanning.

As much as it hurts my soul to say it, if I did submit it to be regraded, I'd probably send it to the cgc.

If ever a book need a press, it is this one.

If you're considering sending it to CGC, then I'd definitely CPR it and do that. For sure the book benefits from a press....its highly probable the book would come back higher in grade... a 9.0 is $5K higher in value than an 8.0 and after a press, a 9.0 is definitely possible.

If you do CPR it, I'd love to see the result....killer book!!!

@DrWatson outside the box thinking. It would look sweet in the red PSA.

I found this at the NTX Comic Show a few months ago and just got it back from CBCS. I had it pegged at a 5.0, but I'll take it. Nice to see I wasn't too far off.

Don't you just love how CGC over-saturates their images so you can't even see the inner well or heat seal.

I've noticed that too, but I assumed it was Mycomicshop that was imaging the slabs....is it CGC that's doing the imaging? If so, that actually explains alot.

It thought it was MCS and Heritage doing their own imaging.

I don't like the blown out scans either.

What is more odd is that not all the MCS images are blown out.

If you want to bludgeon someone with a comic, PSA should be your first choice. James42 private msg quote post Address this user
These all showed up in the past few days. All of them were too cheap to pass up. The Fantastic Four book is a duplicate of the second FF book I ever got; I have no idea why someone graded one, as I wasn't aware of it being a key of any kind. The other two are additions to my Emma Frost collection.

@James42 Very cool!!

How is the PSA slab?

can you stack the slabs and take a picture from the side?

I'd like to see how the thickness of each slab compare.

Newton's Rings - If they’re good enough for CGC then they’re good enough for PSA. Just remember, it’s all within spec.

@GAC Here you go:

This isn't my first or only PSA slab. They are really heavily built. The Newton rings are less visible to the naked eye than on the scanner; I don't think my other PSA slab has any. But even if you ignore the Newton rings, the PSA slab is nowhere near as clear as a CBCS slab.

Worst thing about PSA is the awful labels. If you want to bludgeon someone with a comic, however, PSA should be your first choice.

@James42 Thank you!!

I've never held a PSA slab but I've heard they're tanks....clarity is high on the important list...I hadn't heard that PSA slabs are not as clear, that's good to know. Thats what I.l9ve about the CBCS slabs, they're tanks and super clear and the labels are great.....im not a fan.of the PSA labels either.

cheers!!

@GAC I don't think they are any worse optically than CGC, but neither is as clear as CBCS.

Visited one of my lcs that have great prices.

This book is low grade but a double cover. I enjoy picking up manufacturing defect comics. Price $20

Next book was just something quirky for $35

Next up was a book I use to own decade ago as I bought it brand new so wanted to replace the book. Unfortunately dealers at cons and shops price this at $80-120 so for $50 I pulled the trigger.

Next up a quirky book for $10 so I bought it.

And years ago when I played MTG I bought a starter of star Trek and played it. The shop had a sealed starter of black border cards for $3 so I grabbed it...

Spider-Man 300 from the Philippines I have been looking to add this for years and finally was able to get one of only 26 graded copies. It was released at the same time as the American version, making it different than many foreign editions of books that are released months or even years after the American editions.
