New To Your Collection #1921918

I’m Kinda Married To A Celebrity. 00slim private msg quote post Address this user
I’d say I had a VERY successful weekend at our local Con!

First off, I knocked not one, but TWO books off my ASM 1-20 run. The other two were just bonuses. The #43 is fairly sharp. The others are placeholders, until I upgrade them.

A few early-ish X-Men books for good measure. After I finish ASM 1-20, X-Men 1-66 are my next goal.

Some moderns that caught my eye.

I saw Amy Chu had a booth, so, on day two, I brought this TPB for her to sign. She informed me that this trade was only printed once. She herself hadn’t seen one in years. I had no clue.

Tone Rodriguez (who also worked on the “Tremors” comic) did a sketch for my wife on his “Treehouse of Horrors” art book.

Then the big boy! After like four years of discussion, one of the vendors finally sold me his Tarzan #1 (DELL, 1948) from his personal collection.

Spider-Man #1 Second Printing Gold Edition PSA 9.8. This is my first PSA graded book. The first thing I noticed was the weight of the slab. It weighs 1.8 lbs. versus 1 lb. for the CBCS and the cgc graded books. It's a noticeable weight difference in hand. The second thing I noticed were the Newton rings. There aren't a ton of them, but they are there.

I don't hate it, but it is different. I don't like the label. The worst of the bunch. It's like the book is enclosed inside a fortress and then the fortress is inside the slab.

I'd buy more if I came across something I wanted in a PSA slab. The bottom line though is CBCS > PSA > the cgc.

I'd like to say I still turned out alright, but that would be a lie. flanders private msg quote post Address this user
@DrWatson they should make the front of the label look more like the back. That blue color is more appealing.

Is your wantlist notification set to immediate?

Yes. There is a delay sometimes in emails being delivered to my phone, but I am almost always clicking through within an hour.

Picked up a few, including the last book I needed for the Jim Lee cover set of DK III: Master Race. So that was cool. The Wolverine #1 was a little more beat up than I hoped (auction win), so that might just be a placeholder for now.

Just came in from my Todd McFarlane submission. Thrilled!

I chose to go with something else other than Spawn #1.

Thoughts?

Another department was getting rid of this display and I claimed it really quickly. Of course, I knew exactly what I was going to use it for. I will change it out occasionally with some different trades and readers.

I’m a huge fan of the show “Comic Book Men” that aired on AMC between 2012 and 2018.

These tumblr glasses were given out to the cast & crew as a wrap gift at the end of season 2. I am psyched to add them to my collection.

I just bought this to replace the one I sold 8 years ago and regretted it right away. I bought the one I sold when it first came out in 1981, oh well at least I have one now.

Just a couple pickups where the price was too good. Every time I get one of this generation of CBCS case, I am impressed with how much better the current cases are. I do think they are roughly equivalent to the same era CGC slabs, but they have come a long way.

Edited to add:

This is a rare 9.8 with grader's notes. A far cry from the competition.

Just for display.
BUT it is 5160 Steel, so if ever I get into a sword fight or in a zombie outbreak, it will not break against the other blade nor bone.

Thanks brother. Yeah, I love it. I when I was a kid and first seen Conan the Barbarian, I always liked that sword. I remember going outside grabbing a stick and cutting down weeds, pretending to be Conan and fighting other warriors. That's when kids were kids. Now-a-days, kids dont go outside to play, sadly.
