New To Your Collection #1921918

How do I know this? Because I've done it myself. lawguy1977 private msg quote post Address this user
I took @flanders advice and picked these up on Clink. I have one cover left to get, and I'll be seeing Jim Lee next month at MegaCon.

@lawguy1977 congrats. I'm glad you found some good deals. It can be addicting though. I'm trying to control myself for the moment and not buy anything new until I sell off a bunch of stuff first.

@Nuffsaid111 great looking books. How do you feel about the Hellboy grade?

@flanders I feel they were spot on.
I had the Locke & Key pegged at 9.8
And had the Next Men at 9.6 with very slight color rub. They called it "surface wear" so im guessing theyre one and the same.

This company usually impresses me and very close to my assessments I record just for me

.... and although I recognize what I'm about to say matters as much as a hangnail, CBCS' slab bags are so much nicer than CGC slab bags. Super minor. Super who cares. But for me it gives that little oomph.

@flanders thanks! Yeah, couldn't agree more. It's not cheap, and I'm the same -- I'm trying to sell to buy this stuff.

What's worse is that I've had a 9.8 Batman #619 (CGC old label) that I was going to crack open for Jim Lee to sign at MegaCon -- I have no intention of having it re-slabbed with CGC into a banana case. So I cracked it open last night as I'm preparing books for the trip and guess what, it's not a 9.8. At least not a CBCS 9.8.

Story of my life.

I think that makes three of us @Heinzdad @Bronte . Although my copy has the centerfold missing the price seemed right. Also fingers crossed that someone didn't order this seconds before me at MCS. The order is still processing.

The only significance I'm aware of is that I posted this on a cover contest years ago, it doesn't come up for sale often, and @Heinzdad and @Bronte also like the cover and own copies. I don't know much about the desirability of King Comics other than the first issue.

@DWeeB1967, it’s suggestive. Especially if you believe the conspiracy theory that Popeye was a meth head.

I took my wife to a used book store today and they had a few better comics in a glass case and six short boxes of mostly modern books priced around $1 to $10 in each box. Somehow I have never owned a copy of Watchman #1, so I bought this copy that was inside the case. Not near minty, but a decent looking copy.

@Bronte @Cli4dR3D0g thanks for passing up on it. I haven't been actively looking for a copy other than adding it to my MCS wantlist and I'm happy to have it for the price I paid. Prints cost more than that so to have something from 1939 with only a missing centerfold for the price I paid is a steal.

I’m Kinda Married To A Celebrity. 00slim private msg quote post Address this user
I’d say I had a VERY successful weekend at our local Con!

First off, I knocked not one, but TWO books off my ASM 1-20 run. The other two were just bonuses. The #43 is fairly sharp. The others are placeholders, until I upgrade them.

A few early-ish X-Men books for good measure. After I finish ASM 1-20, X-Men 1-66 are my next goal.

Some moderns that caught my eye.

I saw Amy Chu had a booth, so, on day two, I brought this TPB for her to sign. She informed me that this trade was only printed once. She herself hadn’t seen one in years. I had no clue.

Tone Rodriguez (who also worked on the ā€œTremorsā€ comic) did a sketch for my wife on his ā€œTreehouse of Horrorsā€ art book.

Then the big boy! After like four years of discussion, one of the vendors finally sold me his Tarzan #1 (DELL, 1948) from his personal collection.
