How do I know this? Because I've done it myself. lawguy1977 private msg quote post Address this user
Well, before this whole thing shuts down, I got one last post on here for some new stuff. We did MegaCon in Orlando last Saturday. It was my first time, and my wife and son were along. It was hectic, but my wife was a champ in helping share the load. My son got autographs from all 4 hobbit actors along with a photo that included Legolas and Gimli. The photo op line was brutal but my son was ecstatic with the photo, and John Rhys-Davies was super nice with him. Billy Boyd was sick and almost didn't make Saturday, but he showed up around noon, so we got lucky there, too.

As for comic creators, that was pretty wild. I'm used to long lines, but by the time I got over there (around 4:30pm), the only lines were for Jim Lee and Scott Snyder. I knocked out a ton of signatures all within an hour. Pretty nuts. David Wenzel was probably my favorite creator. Super nice and gracious.

Sara Pichelli also was really cool, especially as she technically was done signing but went ahead and signed my book. Stephen Platt and Dan Panosian were also cool, and, as always, Jock is one of my favorites. He's not cheap for sigs anymore, but super nice and great to talk to. He seems to genuinely enjoy interacting with fans. Joe Quesada was nice, too. All in all, a really great experience.

I did the Jim Lee "experience" as well, which was first thing in the morning. That took some time, but I got the last of my Hush books signed along with Superman #204 that's now signed by Lee and Azzarello.

The one part of the sad story is that I thought my Stephen Platt signature was dry on the Punisher variant, which turned out not to be the case. Not the end of the world. The bigger disaster was my Moon Knight 55 getting a tear at the top. That was pretty devastating, but I'm not going to let it ruin the whole experience. At the end of the day, having my son meet the hobbit actors (his favorite is Sean Astin) and getting their signatures was the goal.

Long short story:

So my wife wanted to go to an antique store in Massachusetts today, so we stopped at a donut shop that we like that’s nearby. While enjoying a coffee and a donut, I did a Google search for nearby comic shops and/or used book stores. Turns out that there is a comic shop just up the street from the donut place. So I walk in and see that more than half the place is dedicated to gaming, and there’s dozens of guys at long tables geeking over some new game launch, I believe. Anyway, not much in the way of comics, but they had some “better” books hanging on a wall. A Werewolf by Night #33 caught my eye - it was marked “$55, grade: 7.0.” I asked a guy to see it, but it looked more like a 3.0 to me, so I passed on buying it.
I was a little disappointed as we drove to the antique store. I had been to this place once before almost a year ago - it’s an old mill building with three floors divided into hundreds of vendor spaces. I didn’t remember seeing more than a few overpriced worthless comics there, but you never know.
I didn’t see any comics on the first floor, but I found two vender spaces with books on the second floor. The first space was somewhat organized and had a couple of interesting books, but they were overpriced. The second space had a wire wrack with four shelves of stacked comics. They were in bags, but no boards. It was an interesting assortment of newer stuff, with some older books mixed in. The price stickers on the back of the bags seemed to only have two prices, and the stickers were placed over the bag flap to seal it. Then I saw this book and did a double take, it might not be high grade, but it was still a bargain, and it does have the 16-page insert (I wasn’t sure it was there until I bought it and opened the sealed bag). Anyone want to guess what I paid for it? Most of the rest of the books were basically dollar bin books, but the vendor was asking for more than that. Let me know if anyone is interested in it, as I already have a graded copy. I can probably give you a good deal on it.

@OGJackster - Pretty close! Every book at this vendor’s space was marked either $2.95 or $3.95. The vast majority were $1 bin books at best.

It's a Fan Expo exclusive variant of #1 of the new Punisher series that I picked up at MegaCon. I think you can still get copies on Fan Expo's site, too.
