It’s time to think about OAFCON 202521910

If you like a cozy and comfortable old-school comic-con with some OG’s, this is the place. It’s a very friendly venue with a warm and welcoming group hanging out in the hotel bar at night. They typically plan it when the Oklahoma football team is out of town, so the Main Street bars and restaurants are pleasantly uncrowded. This year it’s the last weekend in September. I’ve been the last two years. I drive 6 hours to get there but It’s become one of my favorite weekends of the year. I highly recommend considering it:

(I'd apologize to Charles Schulz, but my Snoopy said it was okay.)

My bud Bob Wayne and I should be on the road to Oklahoma Friday! Here's a leisurely un-retouched daguerrotype taken recently at Joe T. Garcia's in Ft. Worth (...imbibing a rare mimosa)!

I always hear good things about that con. Did anyone go and have any photos or video content for it?

The wife and I were there Saturday, got about half way through before taking a lunch break, and then finished crawling the room by late afternoon. It was busy but not wall-to-wall people so you could move around comfortably, the vendors and exhibitors were great, and it was mostly comics.

I came out with a couple of old Dell's and a third printing autographed copy of "The Martian Chronicles" by Ray Bradbury. The wife came home with issues 1-6 of "The Bobcat" after chatting with the writer, and a beautiful large format copy of Cinderella published in the early 40's with art by Fern Bisel Peat.

The show floor is a single large area of vendors and exhibitors, with the auction viewings and guest panels across the hall in some of the smaller meeting rooms. The Embassy Suites is really nice, but I'm not really a picture taking kind of guy.

I resisted bothering @SteveRicketts and his wife at breakfast, expecting to find him later on the floor but never did. It's a good con, my first time there, and will most likely return.

You should have said hi. Sorry I didn't see you.
I spent too much money Friday so we were back on the road by 11am or so. 😂
