Recently heard a very well argued position an NPR regarding AI and music. The presenter argued that AI may not dominate all creative things, but it will definitely dominate music composition. His compelling argument pointed out that AI voices can hit an unlimited range of notes and AI instruments can do everything the most talented musicians can do, flawlessly and with no noticeable difference. As a music composer, he pointed out that for free in minutes or hours, AI can compose work that would cost tens of thousands of dollars and require weeks or months in the studio with musicians. He convinced me. Thoughts?

I appreciate music for the talent involved. Nick Hipa, Ozzy, Steve Grol; the list goes on for rock influences. The experience would not be the same. |

AI might save time in music, but I despise AI customer service chat. It takes 35 minutes to get nothing accomplished while talking in circles when it could be resolved in 5 minutes with a real person. AI can't give music soul. |

Whether he's right or wrong, I think it's a poor use. Let people make music, let computers solve hard computational problems.

Well, I go to a ton of concerts, and I don't think I'll ever be lining up to see an AI live show.

@figment LOL! Getting a lot of Short Circuit vibes here! Johnny #5 could totally fit in, though I think he's more of an 80s pop fan than hard core rocker.

Unfortunately the cat is out of the bag. AI is as dumb as it is going to be. Everyday it is going to get better and better. It doesn't matter if it is music or comic book art, it will be used. These industries will use AI as a tool. They may not use the AI written song word for word but they will use it. Everyone complains that it is stealing from influences that have came before it but so is most artists. I believe that you will have traditional artists just like a craftsman that is pure quality, but you will have companies pumping out AI material. Rick Beato has a great video on YouTube titled: I'm Sorry...This New Artist Completely Sucks. He discusses this Artist he creates and music he "prompted". I tried to link it but it wasn't cooperating. |

I recently upgraded my 5 year old smartphone with a new one. BTW, that’s a personal record for me. When I activated the new phone, I removed or disabled all things Google and shut off all the AI shit. That’s all I have to say about that. |

Maybe AI is the next Mozart…but it sure can’t create a believable listing description for a comic book on eBay..

@andy49 I told my wife if he did 8 more, he would have an album! I guess my question is who gets paid here? There is no band or singer. Who is making the money? The prompter? Spotify? He made the comment that the could take what it gave him and cover it because he knows how to play and compose music. Makes me wonder how much it is already going on.

I agree that it will dominate even now im sure artist are using it as a base for song melodies or lyrics. And they themselves polish it. I personally do not see myself ever listening to this AI content. So far ive stopped buying any Mattina covers as an example. As long as we have real hardworking folks pumping out content I will support. When AI has taken over creative content, I'll just go back to the past by listening to human made songs and read human made stories.
