2025 Convention Season21861

Collector karn9 private msg quote post Address this user
For Terrificon, I am trying to figure out what books to get signed/slabbed.

What would be the best way to get a book signed and then sent to CBCS from this con?

A couple of ideas I have running in my notepad:

Get Al Milgrom to sign Spectacular Spider-Man #98
Get Chris Giarusso to sign the Incredible Hulk #25 (homage of #181)
Get Claremont to sign pretty much anything. I have a #112 that is probably around a 4.5-5 but I would get it signed and un-graded. (Still, it's the earliest Uncanny I own currently.)

My dream would be to get Giarusso to do a cover sketch of Zelma or Doyle for a blank Strange Academy: Blood Hunt cover I have, but I have never attempted to get one done before.

Going to purchase my tickets today (hopefully!) from Boom Tube in Southington

These are the three blanks I own:

I had 4 comics signed and sent off for grading this year at the Dallas Fan Expo. I was curious if anyone else knew if there was a bigger back log this year? I had 6 sent off last year and had all 6 back by the end of July, one of those being pressed. This year 2 out of the 4 are getting pressed but I haven't received an email saying they are out of pressing. Im not asking this being impatient or a perk about it, just generally curious if it was just way busier this year.

@Daveyblack Just an FYI, I dropped off books at C2E2 back in mid-April and it took right at 2 months. I didn't have anything getting pressed and that was early in the convention season.

I know this isn't a comic convention but Gen Con was this weekend. Due to a wedding we only went on Sunday. They had signs up that the four day show was sold out and the website says 72,000 people attended. Not sure how they count four day tickets vs single day but it was packed. Maybe I am just getting old but this show is too crowded for me. It is great for the show and the area but when it is hard to stop at vendors or you can't move around it takes the fun out of it. I can see where vendors are losing sales. Both my sons spent some money but I spent $5 on the floor. Spent four times that on lunch. Now honestly I don't care if I spend money or not because I enjoy going with them but I think I need to find a smaller show because I do like to support the vendors. Miniatures has always been the reason I went to Gen Con but 3d printing has made that need obsolete. I will still look and buy something if it is cool enough but I can just about print anything I want or need.

Any thoughts on shows that you feel are too big or too small for the cost (including ticket and trip).

I had no way of knowing that 9.8 graded copies signed by Adam Hughes weren't what you were looking for. drchaos private msg quote post Address this user
Some but not all of my books dropped off at Philly have been graded. Not sure if any of the books pressed by CBCS were among them.

@Terk13 right on. I appreciate the info. I kinda figured they might be a little busier this year, it seemed like their table had their hands full with back to the future reunion on top of everything else. Im a patient dude though I was just curious if everyone else had the same thing going on.

If the viagra is working you should be well over a 9.8. xkonk private msg quote post Address this user

I had a recent order that was slow in pressing but more or less caught up in grading.

Here's a question for everyone: what do you carry your books in at cons?

Backpack?
Messenger bag?
Mailers?
File/folders?

Got number 10 written on my thumb but after checking in a few times apparently I wasn't there when my number was called. When I came by later they put me behind two people and gave me the last sketch of the day.

In addioion to my Agent Carter sketch I also got a Lady Death remark.

How did day 1 go?

The adventure starts for me tomorrow. Have to take family to the airport in the afternoon so I can’t stay all day. Hoping to get Eastman, Skottie and Jim Starlin in the morning, then just hang out Looking at bins and wall books the rest of the next two days.

I’m in the Eastman line. Got here at 9:20. He was already signing.

I was given a ticket to come back at 12:00 so I could walk around and not wait in line. Fantastic! Went and got a few other sigs.

Came back at 11:30. Was put back in line a little ahead of where I was at 9:20. Very little.

Supposedly people with VIP status can jump the line. And apparently Eastman is the only line to jump. And they stop everything for these VIPs. So the line stalls and doesn’t move for long periods. It’s ridiculous.

So 1hr in I’ve moved 10 people. A person 20 people ahead has been in line 3 hours.

At 12:50 there are still about 100 people ahead of me and I have to leave at 2pm….its not looking good. It’s a total f’up.

That will be me tomorrow.

Today I was second in line for Frank Miller. I bought 30 of the 150 tickets they were selling for the signing. Just stopped at my car to rehydrate and get my James Tynion books.

(Looks at the DOOM logo.....dOOPS! Hickman's green pen got on it....Maybe if I get Maria Wolf to sign it in the future I can have her sign over it....my rookie mistake not letting the gel pen dry....)

2.5 hrs later…

I asked Kevin to sign my Turtles 1 (which is a 40th anniversary reproduction facsimile) in red paint pen. Picture doesn’t do it justice. Looks fantastic.

And a nice big remark on my hardcover reprint of issues 1-7!

Not sure what advice to give. Hopefully the VIPs don’t come back for a round two. Or they have a better system to handle VIPs.

Get there first, i guess. It’s right around the corner on the left as you enter, just past the CGC booth.

I got there at 10:20 (took 20 min to get in). They offered “tickets” to come back
Later…mine was 12:00 noon. Because of the VIPs the line moved 10 people in 60 minutes. Then another 10 in 30 minutes. Then another 20 30 minutes later.

So 40 people in 2hr. Then it was about that pace. This is all not counting the VIPs, which stalled the line.

I can’t believe someone was in line at 9:30 and took till 1:30. 4 hrs.

So I was regretting taking the ticket at first…but at least I got a few signatures in the hour I was out of line. It’s done now….unless Peter Laird makes a surprise appearance…I’m not going back.

Sunday I’ll be diving in long boxes and snapping pics of wall book prices.
