2025 Convention Season21861

Collector karn9 private msg quote post Address this user
It appears 2025 con season has been in full swing for a little bit now.

I am gearing up to head to Terrificon in a few weeks and noticed CBCS wasn't on the vendor page - are they skipping this year? I was hoping to submit a few books.

I also saw that there have been an overwhelming number of variant covers recently - the bulk of them being those "Fame" books (obvious cash grabs?). I am wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the current state of it all? Have conventions gotten better over the years? What do you look for in a con? Less celebs and more creators? (I know that's what I like)

Better? I don't know about that. I do still attend when I can.

CBCS will be at NYCC.

I am pretty sure that CGC has sn exclusive deal at Baltimore to shut CBCS out of the show.

To the best of my knowledge CBCS will not be at Terrificon, Boston Fan Expo, or Canada Fan Expo even though there is no exclusive deal for CGC at these three shows.

For myself I sm plsnning to go to Terrificon on Friday, Boston on Saturday, and wait until Sat night to decide which show to do Sunday.

Not sure how I can possibly get everytging done but I will be picking up my Shooter McGavin sketch from Jim Califiore at Terrificon.

@karn9 I have never been to Terrificon have you done it in the past? Most of the large shows I attend are in the Midwest. I will hit comic shows but will also go to gaming cons like Gencon or Collect A Con. As for comic con seasons, I don't know if there is an off season anymore. When I started going, there were a few in the winter/spring months and summer was the real time. It appears now that if you are willing to travel, there is a show going on somewhere. The problem with these shows for me is that most of them are more pop culture shows than comic shows. I don't mind a mixture of vendors but when it becomes 70-30 or 80-20 not comics, they are losing me. I used to love the Wizard World Chicago show because it was always around the first or second weekend in August just a few weeks away from the San Diego show. I would look up what came out of that show and would be able to usually find it at the Chicago show. The Chicago show was almost always the weekend before Gencon. I would take my family to Wizard World come home and go with a buddy to Gencon. Pretty much a entire week devoted to spending money at two conventions. My wife called it my geek week. I called it the last hurrah of summer. Then the kids were back in school and I knew there wouldn't be another show for a year.

Just checked the events on this website and it seems that CBCS will be at Canada Fan Expo.

Might have to go to that one after sll.

@Terk13 I went last year and had a hell of a time because of the number of creators vs celebrities. One of the appeals was being able to submit to CBCS on site, but it looks like there will still be one or two facilitators other than "the other guys".

I never in a million years would have thought to have something like that done, and now it's all I could want!

I will be with ComicLink at the Chicago show in Rosemont for the entire con, getting consignments and buying and I am not usually at our booth, but if ya stop by the table and, if you don't already have my cell number, please ask the guys at the boothVERY POLITLEY to text me that you are at our booth and I will come and meet ya there.

Went last year and it was fantastic to almost all the collectors and sellers I have spoken with. I know that I, along with the amazing crew at Comiclink of course, did great and we helped a lot of collectors from losing money to shysters. 👍 Hate liars/thieves!!!🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Can't wait to go this summer!!!!!!!!!

Gibsons! 😍🤣

Also, I can't wait to see my dear friends and meet new ones! Best part of our wonderful hobby for sure! I feel so happy that I still had met so many when I was a teen! (Many hobbyists I were friends with, and some mentors of mine are no longer with us) Let's please remember them and the contributions they had such an impact on our hobby. 🙏

Not money, not the "art of the deal", not leaving meat on the bone so that everyone is cool and survives, not speculating on the newest gimmick buy buying 25 copies. Buy 20 copies and buy 5 new comics you have never read and remember the reason we all love comics in the 1st place. 😊

Wow! Sorry for the rant! I just kept writing. I apologize..... 🙏🙏
You all have a most wonderful weekend!!!

I had the actor sign a blank Harley Quinn # 0 at Steel City in April.

Amanda, Jimmy, and Adam Hughes signed the book at Heroes Con.

I had Walt sign the book at GSCF the following weekend before commissioning the sketch with Jim at the end of the day.

A lot of SDCC exclusives look to be also sold on WhatNot (and I'm guessing that is the case with ebay Live as well)

This one in particular is GAS

A peek at Alex Ross’s booth:

By the way, I am not there. My daughter, who is a professional photographer that lives near LA, is working at SDCC this year, taking photos of various panels. So I asked her to take some pictures of comics for me.

Planning to do both Terificon and Boston Fan Expo the same weekend.

Who else is going to either of these shows?

I haven't been to a con since hanging out with that @sborock_ComicLink guy at Dallas Fan Fest in 2022, but I am very much looking forward to the small NTX Comic Show this weekend so I can hang out with Pancake-Man @SteveRickets and hopefully snag a preview copy of Ripped #3.

Anyone in the DC/MD/VA/DE/PA/NJ? area? I'll be setting up at Blue Hen Comic Con in Harrington Delaware on August 16-17th! I'll have the wall up for all of my graded comic book slabs, key wall books, plus over 20+ boxes including $1 / 15 for $10; $2 / 15 for $20; lots of Marvel, DC, and Independent titles and runs. New baby in the house and we need more space than ever, so I'm looking to Thanos the collection throughout this year (doing okay so far).

Terrificon.
I sent in books to a facilitator for Boston Fan Expo (for John Cena) since they are indeed the same weekend and driving Boston/CT back/forth is not a fun thing

You made the right call.

The line for John Cena at Philly Fan Expo was absolutely insane.

I could have been at the front of it but I already made my choice and prioritized Mel Gibson.

This northeast corridor; particularly NJ, NY, CT, & Mass. is a freakin sh*t show of traffic except for 2 - 5 am. And those lean times are filled with chaotic, lunatic, swerving, speeding assholes.
It's a zoo out there 24/7

Terrificon is my backyard. I grab Pepe’s from there every so often. I’ll be there Saturday/Sunday.

I haven’t attended since 2018.

And they’re widening the highway between New Haven to Rhode Island. Traffic backs up right at the 395/95 interchange every Sunday afternoon heading south.

Consider yourself warned.

For Terrificon, I am trying to figure out what books to get signed/slabbed.

What would be the best way to get a book signed and then sent to CBCS from this con?

A couple of ideas I have running in my notepad:

Get Al Milgrom to sign Spectacular Spider-Man #98
Get Chris Giarusso to sign the Incredible Hulk #25 (homage of #181)
Get Claremont to sign pretty much anything. I have a #112 that is probably around a 4.5-5 but I would get it signed and un-graded. (Still, it's the earliest Uncanny I own currently.)

My dream would be to get Giarusso to do a cover sketch of Zelma or Doyle for a blank Strange Academy: Blood Hunt cover I have, but I have never attempted to get one done before.

Going to purchase my tickets today (hopefully!) from Boom Tube in Southington

These are the three blanks I own:

I had 4 comics signed and sent off for grading this year at the Dallas Fan Expo. I was curious if anyone else knew if there was a bigger back log this year? I had 6 sent off last year and had all 6 back by the end of July, one of those being pressed. This year 2 out of the 4 are getting pressed but I haven't received an email saying they are out of pressing. Im not asking this being impatient or a perk about it, just generally curious if it was just way busier this year.

@Daveyblack Just an FYI, I dropped off books at C2E2 back in mid-April and it took right at 2 months. I didn't have anything getting pressed and that was early in the convention season.

I know this isn't a comic convention but Gen Con was this weekend. Due to a wedding we only went on Sunday. They had signs up that the four day show was sold out and the website says 72,000 people attended. Not sure how they count four day tickets vs single day but it was packed. Maybe I am just getting old but this show is too crowded for me. It is great for the show and the area but when it is hard to stop at vendors or you can't move around it takes the fun out of it. I can see where vendors are losing sales. Both my sons spent some money but I spent $5 on the floor. Spent four times that on lunch. Now honestly I don't care if I spend money or not because I enjoy going with them but I think I need to find a smaller show because I do like to support the vendors. Miniatures has always been the reason I went to Gen Con but 3d printing has made that need obsolete. I will still look and buy something if it is cool enough but I can just about print anything I want or need.

Any thoughts on shows that you feel are too big or too small for the cost (including ticket and trip).

Some but not all of my books dropped off at Philly have been graded. Not sure if any of the books pressed by CBCS were among them.
