It's the "maybe this will give CGC some competition" video comments that crack me up. | ||

@Zombie_Head What frustrates me with videos like this is that they do nothing to show how good the company is at actually grading books. You send in a bunch of modern unread books published in the last year, they all should be 9.8. Send in some Silver or Golden age books for crying out loud. Anyway, not a big fan of the PSA label, though that wouldn't be a stopping point for me. The slab itself looks fine. Definitely won't be submitting any though, especially with those newton rings. As far as encapsulation and quality goes, IMO, CBCS is the winner. I will say Banana-Gate has helped me from spending too much money. I avoided a bunch of CGC slabs in the MCS Prime Auction. But I did win 5 CBCS books, so pretty excited to have those in hand soon. |

Quote:Originally Posted by GAC This is how I think PSA thinks the secondary comic market will react to them. That is true to some extent given PSA's relationship with all the larger auction houses. But they are not doing themselves any favors with this rollout. What really seems to me to read as a self inflected gunshot wound is they are unarguably using that mindset in thier pricing for comic submissions. PSA simply used their pricing tables for card subs, and converted them to the same percentage based tables for comic subs....this means that for for all comics that aren't moderns with a declared $400 FMV or less, PSA's prices will be higher than both CGC and CBCS's. 45 second video partially explains this here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79hMFtW-ygI AutomaticComics has been putting out good breakdowns/thoughts on PSA comic grading, here's the lot of them. @AutomaticComics/search?query=psa" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/@AutomaticComics/search?query=psa Finally, I really hope that @CollectorsComics has a sit down with Mark Wilson, his old man and the head grader at PSA, to offer some constructive criticism on both these points...but especially PSA's decision to price their comic grading out of line with CGC both CGC and CBCS. CGC is by far the top comic grading company, by market share and realized secondary market prices....so, it's just not a good call to come out of the gate with pricing on their comic grading that is more than CGC's pricing, per FMV percentages. I want PSA to become a strong competitor to CGC, to lessen CGC's ability to monopolize the market as this hurts us all. PSA could do that, but they are very unlikely to accomplish that with their current approaches to submission handling and pricing. |

@PolarisNuclearSS2020 I don’t like PSA grading scale with no 9.9’s. So 10’s will be everywhere. A real 10 will have less value now or they will change to using a 9.9 grade. As of right now just what I see and know about the 3 companies PSA isn’t even in the running with CBCS or CGC which I don’t like CGC so that should tell you something. |

Nah, I'm okay getting rid of the 9.8/9.9/10 differentiation grading, especially considering CGC's past difficulties in even grading damaged 9.8's. What I DON'T like from PSA is the VF labeling a 9.0 would receive, as opposed to the Overstreet and other grading companies' standardized VF/NM. I finalized my submission earlier today for PSA. All moderns, I just don't have any silver or bronze age books available to send in (about 20 issues currently with my cleaner/presser guy) and didn't want to wait too long otherwise. I purposefully selected comics that I think will look good with the red PSA label, though certainly hope they revisit their label designs in the future (as every other company has already done before). |
