went to heroes con. main goal was John Romita Jr. he seems to change his prices when he feels like it.

I had heard $20 (most charge that)
the con website listed him as $25
today he charged (and I paid) $30

Dan Jurgens like last year is free on first

Mark Buckingham free (but does ask for donations)

Cully Hamner $5

Sheesh
150 - 250 for a "quick sketch" or "remark"?

I guess I'm still living in the 80s/90's/2000s when full commissions were $250

But too pricey for me especially $1k and possibly plus for commission..

Joe Rubinstein a couple of years ago did a signing at my lcs

Cost me $300 for this

@southerncross far far far more reasonable. That's a nice full torso commission with gray tone color and background; and im sure took him some time.

These artists, particularly when involved with comicsketchart; feel they can charge inordinate amount of money for literally, a remarque that takes 1 to 5 minutes to complete.
And if people go for it, why not get what you can get?

I for one will not be party to draining a wallet for a remarque/quickie; however.

I still get angry to see “graded” signatures charged more than “Raw signatures”.

ITS THE SAME F-CKING SIGNATURE!

It's fine they charge us for their time, effort, and convention stay.
It is not fine to charge us more because they "think" were going to sell stuff.
Set a price. And we will go for it or we wont.

I believe their could be a compromise. Like first 3 are free and after that they charge the signing fee. Gives real fans a chance to interact and get some things signed without paying anything when you are already supporting them by buying the comic in the first place. Remarks could be free if they place your bame on the sig: To My biggest fan Slim Jim" Bagley does free sigs if personalized and I think thats awesome.

I don't want to "pick on" this specific artist only so I won't name him.
Because since this time, I realized it happens more often than I knew with many artists. But this annoyed me to say the least.

I commissioned a Bane sketch blank cover from a famous Bane artist.
Was quoted a price (call it $250 - but I don't remember)
As he was drawing, I was chatting with the fine folks at the CBCS booth.
I thought to myself hmmm... since it's a blank sketch, it'd probably look nice in a CBCS case for an additional 30/35/whatever case cost to display in my garage... yep... my garage.

As I picked up this from the artist, I got "ohhhhhhhh.... you're getting that graded? It's another $75".
I said "for what"? And I get "because you're getting it graded". Yea - exactly - no stated real reason except you think I'm selling it so charge me more. Was kinda pissed. But whatever - I just know now to watch out for this Bullsh*t from artists and walk away if they do it now no matter who they are. You, artist, want to pull nonsense? Fine, pull nonsense - but I won't involve you for anything. Nice way to keep your fans.

Hmm what about doing a verified signature with cbcs? That way you dont pay extra from the artist or submit it as art? I've seen some slabs that have "art" in the grade area. Never looked into it.

I think the signature would be verified but not the sketch.
It was a Terrificon quite some time ago and forgotten the details, but I didn't forget how the whole experience made me feel

I forget the details but I think this is what Barry Kitson did for me a ways back. A sketch was X dollars, X plus whatever dollars if getting graded, but still X if personalized.

Yeah I'd have to pass on Hamill sig.

What are signed books going for raw on average for;

Stan Lee
Jack Kirby
Jerry Siegel
Todd McFarlane
Walt Simonson
Len Wein

Knowing that this greatly depends on which book and what grade.
But in general does anyone know what the signatures are worth?

Curious because yesterday a silver and bronze age collection was acquired with and approx. 100+/- of the books being signed by these and other artists/writers.

A very small sampling of signed and unsigned pieces.

@Nearmint67 Stan signed a lot of stuff. His signature doesn't add a lot to a non-key book (maybe $100?), and that assumes it can be authenticated. Signatures from his last few years, when his handlers were exploiting him, are really difficult to authenticate. There's also a lot of fakes out there.

As for the rest, I don't know.

Stan - thousands and thousands and thousands of signatures out there.
McFarlane - MORE than thousands and thousands and thousands out there
Simonson - maybe a million considering he's still consistently doing the convention scene for 40 years with lines that wrap forever.
Len Wein - deceased and would pay more than FMV for a book with his signature; particularly Swamp Thing

Jerry Siegel/Jack Kirby - I, for one, will pay a significant amount of $$$ for Jack Kirby and Jerry Siegel, if authentic sigs. Have fun finding legit signatures of these two mammoths of comic history

I'm not big on books with the signature haphazardly scrawled across the cover.

In fact, I have passed on more books because they were signed than purchased as a result of being signed.

can anyone confirm:
Gerry Conway
Roy Thomas

might do them next year. at least Roy Thomas. bought two copies of Star Wars #1. an original 1977 reprint (3rd overall) and facsmile. plan on grading the reprint but have Roy Thomas sign the facsmile

So true. I’m guilty of it. I got 10 graded spawns and sent them all in for Todd to sign. Sold 8 of them, still have 2.

I agree with that. Several are old school, signed at the bottom of the splash page.

Yep, we saw a few that were definitely done toward the end for Stan or fakes or both.
But many are legit.

They will all be getting verified. The ones that pass will be evaluated for grading.
The rest will probably go to a dealer as lump just to move them.
I think their are two Siegel signed books.

It will take a little time to check everything out..

It was the strangest buying situation.
Seller didn't invite us inside his house.
We had to go through everything outside in the Florida heat.
Took 3 hours to get the guy to agree on a price while everyone was sweating...
But the deal was done.

I will let you all know when any of them are ready for sale.
Thaks guys for all of the input.
