CBCS RAW graded w/ transparent backing boards?21787

Collector outlawmonster private msg quote post Address this user
I can’t find a clear answer if CBCS Comics will ever offer transparent backing boards for the raw grade service. I think the raw grade service is great because it offers a balance between sealed graded and those who don’t like encapsulation. I’ve been using it more because I’ve noticed many people are moving away from slabs, so I’ve started using top loaders in my sales.

This seller has the right idea (it’s not me): https://ebay.us/m/Loj6Es

I’m curious everyone thoughts on the raw grade service and thoughts on transparent backing boards and also using top loaders.

I like top loaders for sure. I always buy the wrong size though for some reason

@outlawmonster I suggested this to one of the Regional Sales Managers 2 years ago or so- it’s a shame they have not implemented this because the back cover is graded just like the front-

Personally I’m like you I will NEVER use RAW grading service until they do the clear backing boards… if they did do them I’d definitely use it-

And top loaders would be a nice touch but isn’t that something that can be added by the customer themselves- I feel like doing this might make it too out of the price range to make sense- it has to stay a decent amount lower than the graded slab cost- but for clear backing board I’d gladly pay a little more!-

Also space concerns with RAW grade not a concern compared to thick slabs!

I was just wondering the same thing about the clear backing boards. I think a lot of people like myself have stacks of books that would be worth grading at the Raw Grade price but not the slabbed price. Two things that stop me from submitting are the view-blocking backing boards and the fact that MCS doesn’t accept CBCS’s assigned Raw Grade for consignment. If either one of those things changed I would likely be submitting again regularly. And changing to clear baking boards might actually encourage MCS to accept Raw Grade for consignment. And that could cause an explosion in submissions of books that go through the Raw Grade process before going to MCS, avoiding the inevitable grade hammering. the inspection and hammering process must be fairly labor-intensive and time-consuming for MCS. That would be a win for sellers, CBCS and MCS.

Wasn't there some type of issue with the clear backing boards, aside from the additional weight?

I have gotten raw grades back before with clear backing boards. But the last couple that I submitted (Treasury Size) did not have clear backing boards. I assume because they don't make them?

@radd76 I was saying Top Loader as my own touch, similar to the seller I included on my OP. Also, if you look his post has a clear backing board and allegedly, CBCS did do clear backing boards for a time????

@SidTheSquid so I am not crazy! I knew it!

Why don’t they just make the switch and make their own sizes if they can’t source them? I know cost is always a factor! Think of the positives though! @stevericketts and @sborock know I am a serious person when it comes to grading, although it’s been years since we have gotten together! Heck dinner with Neal was the last time! 😱

They do, to the extent that they would accept it raw. But I agree it's kind of ridiculous that they don't accept the grading.
