Baltimore Comic Con Exclusivity?21770

I'm waiting.... (tapping fingers).
Splotches is gettin old!

Ive been attending Baltimore CC for close to 20 years - never missed.
As of the last many years, I've used the fine, wonderful staff at CBCS to witness my books for signings.

I just received an email from those <cough> fine <choke> folks <gag> at CGC that they will be exclusive for Baltimore comic con this year? Please tell me that "exclusivity" does not mean truly "exclusive" - i.e. CBCS cannot attend like what happened years back at NYCC?

I don't need those jackasses in red shirts & I certainly don't need bent ass books

Signed
Concerned & very Not Happy

Yep, that's what it means. CBCS will not be set up there. Not sure if any facilitators will be, but CBCS themselves will not. The contract was signed last year but CBCS had already purchased the booth at that time.

The cgc is so secure in their product that they have to buy exclusivity.

..... well.... I will be having a chat with Marc Nathan and ensure it's understood at least one man is not happy with this. I like the guy alot, but he won't be liking me this year.

It surprises no one that CGC is resorting to bullshit and (what is basically) bribery to silence the competition.

Not sure if it’ll be the same there, but a few years ago when CGC had exclusivity at ECCC, CBCS set up shop in a hotel offsite to take submissions.

Same thing at Heroes Con in Charlotte. CBCS will not be there.

Interesting note on that - Heroes and Baltimore are the two shows where CGC is offering on-site grading, so I guess it may be part of the exclusivity deal?

I heard about that while I was at C2E2. I was hoping it wasn't true. What a shame.

Incase anyone want to chime in, I let Baltimore Comic Con know that Beckett should be allowed in.

Good job. I did as well earlier when I posted.
And I assure you it was not a choir boy chiming in.

I've gotten salty on here; but reel myself in in attempt not to go on the naughty list.
With Baltimore CC, quite frankly I don't give a sh*t.
It' unacceptable and all $$$$; and I'd be in a 7 day timeout already
Buncha jackasses runnin the show and one big one who transformed in a year

I quit going to Baltimore. If you get outside the Inner Harbour, then it's not the safest of neighborhoods.

is happening at heroes con in Charlotte, NC. I'm opting to use the money I would've use to grade to buy something cool. likely already graded comics (but open to something like an expensive signature, something for my power rangers collection)

cgc is there but they are crap. Im open to buying an already graded comic by them from a vendor but not gonna risk bad slabs, damaging my comic, etc

cgc has been doing horrible job, causing people to not grade with them. so what do they do? fix problems? give incentives to grade with them? Nope.....create a monopoly at conventions. force people to either grade with them or not. pretty jerk thing to do. I was really hoping to grade my web of spider-man #1, and venom Lethal Protector #1 (got both to grade). there is a card show in October I hear cbcs does attend or something. so will try that

I was talking to a former CBCS employee at Megacon who said they tried to do the same thing last year. CGC wanted to be exclusive at both HeroesCon and Baltimore but they were able to keep it from happening.

No such luck this year!

That's three of the biggest shows in the US that CBCS isn't allowed to setup at. If CGC is so much better than any other grading company, why do they need to resort to these tactics?

I'm only going to HeroesCon because I booked my hotel and bought my three day pass months before I found out. It will be the last time if this happens again.

Like @power_struggle55 I plan on using the money I set aside to get some artwork and maybe a book or two I've wanted to buy. It's a shame these venues cave to CGC and don't allow for fair competition.

Personally, I can't wait for PSA. That way the cgc will have to pay double for exclusivity.

Yeah, and that's also why the label on a bottle of suppositories says, "Do not eat."

You can't fix stupid.

Had a comic shop send off 13 books to CGC, finally got them back after 3.5 years(yes that is right) One book damaged, several low ball grades. Done with them

If you look at the latest comiclink auction, the newer CGC slabs are still selling for outrageous prices. They truly are an unstoppable Juggernaut.

I heard there was outrage in the LGBTQ community over that label and they have since changed it to "Only eat with your butt"

That being said, I think I'm going to excuse myself from using the internet for the rest of the day.

its really dumb. they know they are losing costumers....so what's their solution...force us. what's next hijack our submissions to they get the money and they do slabbing? I mean that's illegal but..

That's a shame. The guys at the CBCS booth were a wonderful help last year cracking a CGC slab of mine to have signed & witnessed, then processed for a press and grading (9.4 to a 9.8!), along with taking in many other books I had signed and would then bring in for a larger submission towards the end of the weekend. Super cool guys as well.

If I recall, CGC's booth was in meltdown mode with their terminals going down, customers waiting 1+ hours to even get the process started, and many others waiting even longer for their books to be completed than initially quoted. Yay.

As I've calmed down and re-read the news blast from Baltimore Comic Con, they're actually celebrating this exclusivity.
WTF.
Why would any attendee: CGC only hobbyists, CBCS only hobbyist, no slab ever hobbyist or otherwise celebrate a single representative company only; while shutting others out? What does having both attend matter to anyone? You may not use CBCS or even care one iota about them. But why would an attendee celebrate and be happy that CBCS isn't there?

It's the stupidest ass news blast I've ever read in my life.
Hey BCC and Marc Nathan (the organizer) - here's a news flash - no one but you gives a shit. Be a little smarter next time.

Edit: now i'm fired up again. Dammit. I had just calmed down

Hopefully CBCS can match the fee with a VSP discount, at least for books with only one signature. CGC charges non-members $20 for the CGC signature series or $15 per book with lowest tier membership. You could also tell the artist/writer/creator that you're not having the book graded and maybe that'll save you some money.

Or better yet, explain to them the latest CGC scandal and how they're ruining the industry. I'm sure some might care, at least off the record, since they're not going to openly criticize CGC and potentially lose an opportunity for an exclusive signing.

I remember when CGC had an exclusive at NYCC and CBCS set up shop a block away.

I absolutely loved hanging out at the CBCS headquarters there.

It was the perfect spot to get away from the madness of the con and regroup with some friends for a bit.
