Baltimore Comic Con Exclusivity?21770

That's a shame. The guys at the CBCS booth were a wonderful help last year cracking a CGC slab of mine to have signed & witnessed, then processed for a press and grading (9.4 to a 9.8!), along with taking in many other books I had signed and would then bring in for a larger submission towards the end of the weekend. Super cool guys as well. If I recall, CGC's booth was in meltdown mode with their terminals going down, customers waiting 1+ hours to even get the process started, and many others waiting even longer for their books to be completed than initially quoted. Yay. |

As I've calmed down and re-read the news blast from Baltimore Comic Con, they're actually celebrating this exclusivity. WTF. Why would any attendee: CGC only hobbyists, CBCS only hobbyist, no slab ever hobbyist or otherwise celebrate a single representative company only; while shutting others out? What does having both attend matter to anyone? You may not use CBCS or even care one iota about them. But why would an attendee celebrate and be happy that CBCS isn't there? It's the stupidest ass news blast I've ever read in my life. Hey BCC and Marc Nathan (the organizer) - here's a news flash - no one but you gives a shit. Be a little smarter next time. Edit: now i'm fired up again. Dammit. I had just calmed down |

Hopefully CBCS can match the fee with a VSP discount, at least for books with only one signature. CGC charges non-members $20 for the CGC signature series or $15 per book with lowest tier membership. You could also tell the artist/writer/creator that you're not having the book graded and maybe that'll save you some money. Or better yet, explain to them the latest CGC scandal and how they're ruining the industry. I'm sure some might care, at least off the record, since they're not going to openly criticize CGC and potentially lose an opportunity for an exclusive signing. |

I remember when CGC had an exclusive at NYCC and CBCS set up shop a block away. I absolutely loved hanging out at the CBCS headquarters there. It was the perfect spot to get away from the madness of the con and regroup with some friends for a bit. |

I sent the following message to their email, general@baltimorecomiccon.com "I was planning on attending the con again this year but I heard you will not allow CBCS to attend. By making CGC the only company to have comics graded and witnessed at your show you are telling everyone you don't care about competition. You only care about the money CGC is paying you. What's next, only allowing companies like Unknown Comics exclusive rights to selling show exclusives. Maybe you should approach them with the idea. I'm sure they'll pay you a nice fee for the rights. By not allowing a company to setup at your show and giving its main competitor exclusive rights is wrong. I know a lot of collectors who feel this is a slap in the face to their wishes and desires. I will never attend another Baltimore Comic Con!" Unless people complain they will continue to take CGC's money. If you attend HeroesCon or Baltimore, tell the artists what the show is doing. It's not only making it impossible for us to get books witnessed it's taking money away from them. |

I just emailed this to them: I am boycotting your Con on the grounds that you are boycotting CBCS from attending and proudly advertising your Con as a CGC only event. You obviously are unaware or don't care to know of all the issues plaguing CGC and competition clearly means little or nothing to you. Until the time CBCS is allowed to freely compete at your Con, I will not be attending. Good day. |
